BY HOWARD ERICKSON Fret Press Sports Writer The Production Line has been altered somewhat but it still reads: Howe, Lindsay and Abel. And it's still as explosive as ever. Gordie Howe and Ted Lindsay, who along with Sid Abel made up the famed Production Line which led the Detroit Red Wings through the 1940's, were joined by Abel's son, Gerry, as the Red Wing Old-Timers whipped the Apollos, 6-2, in Jackson Tuesday night. Although Howe didn't break any of his scoring records, he assisted on a pair of goals by Lindsay and on another goal by Abel. "I WAS LAUGHING too much to score a goal myself," said Howe, the Mr.

Hockey of the National Hockey League before his retirement from the Red Wings last September. "Playing with the ol' guys is really great the companionship and the joking back and forth," added Gordie. "You know, none of the guys have changed a bit. Oh, they've slowed up some, but they still have all the moves." The Old-Timers completely destroyed the Apollos, a senior men's league club. Even when the primarily young team of challengers tried to stay even with the former Red Wings by flexing their muscles, the Old-Timers gave Bring Back Ted Lindsay! Ted Lindsay (left) has made another comeback this time with the Red Wing Old Timers.

"It's an opportunity for me to reach two goals," said Lane, who recorded the last of his 62 pass thefts as a Lions' cornerback before retiring in 1965. "I recently received offers to become head coach and athletic director at excellent universities. I lost those jobs because I had not completed my co 1 1 education when I started playing pro ball back in 1952. "IN MY NEW position at Southern, I also will be able to coach, to complete my academic work and receive a degree in physical education," Lane said.
