DETROIT FREE PRESSWEDNESDAY. AUG. 1, 1984 5D inner corneir Olympics Jaeger final pvpnt for '84 1, Parrish can't believe poll, calls Hernandez the real MVP Reagan gives a very special Tiger blessing chatter Who's No. Lance Parrish reacted with a laugh to the oanup organization poll of 1 ,059 registered Michigan voters that rates him the Tigers' most valuable player. Parrish called the results "a surprise." The poll, part of a political survey for the rree tress and News 4 (WDIV-TV), showed 15 percent thought NAPA, Calif.

(UPI) Andrea: Jaeger, who has a sore right arm and shoulder, said the injury will sideline her for the rest of the year after she competes in next week's Olympic women's tennis matches in Los Angeles. Jaeger, practicing at the Silverado Country Club and Resort with the U.S. men's and women's teams, plans to return to her home in Largo, after the Games to rest and recover from the injury that prevented her from playing full-time in tournaments this year. "The only reason I'm playing is because of the Olympics, and after the Olympics I'm taking off the rest of the year," said the 19-year-old Jaeger, who began 1984 ranked third best woman in the world on the Women's Association tennis computer. Jaeger, now 15th, developed the soreness this year after suffering from tendinitis and a rotator cuff injury late in 1983.

Nevertheless, she received an automatic spot on the U.S. team along with Kathy Horvath because of their high rankings. The two are joined on the women's team by Gretchen Rush, two-time all-America, from Trinity University, and Andrea Leand. Add another person to the Tigers' bandwagon. This time it's President Reagan.

Reagan delivered his special Tiger blessing during an satellite interview Monday with Mort Crim of Channel 4 (WDIV-TV). AP Photo via Channel 4 rarnsn was no. l. Next were tnet Lemon, Willie Hernandez, Lou Whit-aker and Alan Trammell. Parrish's choice: Hernandez.

Little numbers: After leading the league in team hitting much of the first half, the Tigers have dropped to fourth with a .271 average. Toronto leads at .278. Since the Ail-Star Game, and going into Tuesday's doubleheader, the Tigers are batting only .253 (153-for-604). Big numbers: The Tigers have drawn 30 consecutive home crowds in excess of 25,000. They are 638,000 ahead of last year's attendance pace and 437,437 ahead of 1968's record pace.
