TOM HENDERSON Frije Press Special Writer I FLINT Sophomore Rodney Culver a kickoff 96 yards for a touchdown and rushed for two others fof Detroit St. Martin dePorres, which crashed Brown City, 48-12, Friday night at Atwood Stadium in the regional finals of the Class playoffs.

IDePorres (8-3 7) was awesome early, running up a 34-0 lead in the first 17 minutes. iEight plays, 80 yards, touchdown. Three plays, 69 yards, touchdown. Five plays, 88 yards, touchdown. Five plays, 57 yards, touchdown.

One play, 45 yards, touchdown. Five possessions, five touchdowns, 339 yards of offense. were ready for the ball game," said DePorres coach Ron Thompson. "Teams that haven't seen us before kind of get caught by surprise." One of the surprises for the Green Devils (11-1 and No. 10) was that a sophomore could be as big (5-feet-ll and 205 pounds) and as fast as Culver.

IN THE FIRST HALF, Culver scored on runs of three and 70 yards and had 149 yards on 12 carries. He finished with 183 yards on 17 carries. Anthony Cummings was the other big-play Eagle. He caught a 45-yard touchdown in the second quarter on a beautiful pass from junior Frank Johnson and later, playing backup quarterback, Cummings scored on a 25-yard run. Marcus Norwood added a touchdown on a 36-yard run and Troy Brown (Forester kick) Kramme (Rogers kick) Alabama-Bell 5 pass from Shula Young (Owen Kick) Northern llllnos-M.

Senior halfback Mark Hanson ran for 95 yards and boosted his season total to 1,674, and Rich Prowse had 84 yards rushing before breaking his ankle on the second-half kickoff. And Kevin Walters and Jeff Mux-low each managed one-yard touchdown runs. But generally, it was David against Goliath, and there weren't any stones on the artificial surface at Atwood. Twenty of Brown City's 31 players weighed 150 pounds or fewer and just two were more than 190.

DePorres had 19 players at 190 pounds or more and 13 at morre than 200. DePorres, going for its fourth straight Class state title and fifth state title in five seasons, plays Lansing Catholic Central in the semifinals next Saturday at Hillsdale College. Class Lansing Catholic Central 23, Gales-burg-Augusta 0: Junior halfback Joe Joseph ran for 188 yards on 24 carries and scored all three touchdowns (on runs of 37, 29 and 28 yards) for Lansing Catholic Central in the regional final at Hillsdale College. Lansing Catholic Central (11-0 and No. 2) held the Rams (10-1 and No.

Derek Fox added the extra point. The Eagles (10-1 and No. 7) scored with 11:43 left in the second quarter on a 16-yard scoring pass from Dean Koenigsk-necht to Lavern Feldpausch. Kevin Schmitt's extra point tied the game before Sherrod scored with 4:1 8 left in the quarter. Fowler got inside the Tigers' 20 three times in the second half but failed to cross the goal line.

(AP)- A couple who claimed to have spent $2,800 on lottery tickets will be investigated to see whether any of the money came from federal payments for the support of their mentally retarded son, officials say.

"If I could, I would try to stop this type of people from purchasing tickets," state lottery director Mark Michalko said of Bill and Lynn Woehl, who claimed to have papered a wall with losing tickets since the California Lottery began operating seven weeks ago. Bill Woehl, who is unemployed, said the family income is "zilch," except for the $400 monthly Supplemental Security Income check the couple receives for the support of their 16-year-old son, Alan.
