GB He wore a crimson jacket of all things, and when he was asked why he would be wearing the Ohio State colors, he snapped: "That's so I'll remember to feel sorry for Ohio State after we beat them this fall." SCHEMBECHLER said practice has gone well so far, even though it's been cold in Ann Arbor. Schembechler noted that his major problem would be to find replacements for eight key players Don Moorhead, Dan Dierdorf, Jack Harpring and Paul Staroba on offense and Henry Hil), Jim Betts, Marty Huff and Pete Newell on defense. "But we've got another fine senior class and I expect to have another strong season," he said.

In his two years at Michigan, Schembechler has compiled a 17-4 record and he appears as-eager as ever to produce another big winner. are invited to other bowls, they should be allowed to go." WHAT SCHEMBECHLER obviously was referring to Is the new Big Ten rule which allows its runnerup teams in basketball to accept bids to the National Invitation Tournament, while the champion competes in the NCAA tournament. Schembechler, who- is into the first week of spring practice, looked as lean as he did last season in his comeback from the heart attack he suffered at the 1970 Rose Bowl game. "The doctors told me if I could live through last season, I'd be in business," smiled Schembechler. "I'll tell you this if my heart could stand that game at Columbus, it's a helluva heart." Schembechler's weight is in the low 170s and this, he 'said, is almost 50 pounds lighter than when he was stricken in Pasadena.

BY JOE FALLS Pre. Prait Snortt Editor Bo Schembechler doesn't like finishing second especially when he has to sit home on New Year's Day and watch other teams play in the bowl games. "It was a crime what happened to us last season. We were the greatest team in the country not to play in a bowl game," Schembechler said Wednesday while speaking at the Detroit Sports Broadcasters Association. "We 'should have been playing somebody like Nebraska in the Orange Bowl," Schembechler added.

"Notre Dame lost its last game and got a chance to redeem itself in the Cotton Bowl." Schembechler said the Big Ten ought to send its championship team to the Rose Bowl every year "because the Rose Bowl is the greatest bowl of all." Minnesota 3, Los Angeles 1. NEW YORK (UPI) Heavyweight champion Joe Frazier probably suffered a head injury in his successful 15-round title defense on March 8 against Muhammad Ali, it was learned Wednesday by United Press International. On the basis of Frazier's post-fight symptoms, a physician for the New York State Athletic Commission said he was going to recommend the champion be suspended until conclusive tests can be taken. Dr. Edwin Campbell, a physician for the commission who treated Frazier for three days after the bout, revealed the 27-year-old champion was suffering from the symptoms of either a subdural hematoma or a concussion.

Campbell said Frazier suffered severe nausea, including vomiting, in the days following the bout and "was more exhausted than any fighter I've ever seen. I'd call it an exhaustion complex." A subdural hematoma is a blood clot in the tissue surrounding the brain, and it can grow larger if not broken down. An operation is necessary to correct the problem if the clot does not subside. Symptoms for a concussion or subdural hematoma include nausea, headaches, high blood pressure and a low pulse rate. Frazier had all of those syp-toms.

A neurosurgeon explained that a brain (subarachnoid) were down 12-5 before they showed any signs of life. THEN BRADY went to work for eight points in six minutes and Michigan, although not looking spectacular, was holding a 22-19 lead. 'It didn't last long, though, as Yankus hit two quick baskets and Bob (Peanut) Murphy sank three in the final three minutes to let Georgia Tech go to the intermission with a 33-31 lead. The Michigan hopes for a second-half comeback got a fast cooling-off when Yunkus hit six points and Tom Wilson added four more to put the Yellowjackets off and running with a 43-35 lead with 17:11 to play in the game. The Wolverines whittled their deficit down to three points three times, but every time they got that close Georgia Tech came back with a bucket or a couple free throws of its own.

Successive baskets by Brady and Dave Hart pulled the Wolverines to within four points, 62-58, with 4:18 to play. But Yunkus put in a reverse layup ancj then drove smoothly to the hoop for another basket and Michigan couldn't make a significant dent In it again. The Wolverines finish the season with a 19-7 record, while Georgia Tech moves along with a 22-8 mark. hemorrhage, in addition to a concussion, would also cause the symptoms experienced by Frazier. opener. WOODEN saw a 47-game victory skein go down the drain in a 71-69 loss to the University of Houston in the spacious dome on Jan. 20, 1968. Wooden, although his team is not shooting particularly well, is pleased with the late season charge by the Bruins. "We're now playing with more enthusiasm and appear to be hungrier," he said.

"We played negative basketball early in the season but we are now playing positively. UCLA and fourth-ranked Kansas each hold 27-1 records. THE HILLTOPPERS, coached by John Oldham, have a height and depth edge over quick, run-and-shoot 18th rated Villanova. The 7-foot McDaniels has averaged 29 points and 15 rebounds per game and heads the offense. Coach Jack Kraft of Villanova (26-6) is a defensive stickler, calling his system "a combination man-to-man zone.

Asked if he will use the zone against Western Kentucky, Kraft said "It just depends on how well I think we can match up against them. And I'm not saying right now.
