W. EDGAR Free Press Statf Writer SAN FRANCISCO The road jinx that has gripped the University of Detroit football forces for the past two seasons is ended. The Titans shattered it in no uncertain terms in Kezar Stadium by conquering the University of San Francisco Dons, 18 to 6, before 20,000 speetators. FOR THE GREATER part of three periods, the Titans pushed their rivals all over the turf with a masterful display of power, but had no better than a 6-6 deadlock. There was little hope that this would be broken when the final period opened.

Then, striking like a bolt out of the blue, they counted two more touchdowns and put the game out of the reach of the Dons. All season, Coach Charley Baer has claimed that somebody along the line would feel the Titans' power. And the Dons were the victims when it exploded. FROM THE OPENING kickoff, ff was evident that the Titans had the stronger team. There was hope of an explosion in the first period when they got to the three-yard line.

But the hope died when an overhead attack failed. Undaunted by this, the Titans came back in the second period to take the lead. THREE TIMES in the second half of the Mississippi State game a chorus of boos was directed at Russ Reader, the Spartans' ace left halfback. Sports writers and visiting stouts in the press box were unanimous in failing to recall ahy previous occasion of a college grid-der being booed except as a result of foul tactics.

The strange part of this booing was that Reader was innocent both of dirty play and poor performance. The booing all from the student sections apparently was an expression of displeasure over the failure of the Spartans to score against a better, more experienced team. Reader, as the team's top player to date this season, was the unfortunate target. The loudest jeers followed a thwarted scoring bid when Michigan State had a first down on the Maroons' five. Poor generalship is the only criticism which would apply to what followed.

The Spartans abandoned their effective passing as Reader and Fullback Frank Waters each plunged twice for no gain against the superior Mississippi State line. THE TITANS' joy was shortlived, however, for Forrest Hall broke away for a gallop of 82 yards- and the tying touchdown.

Harmon Rovve missed the try for point. Both teams missed chances again the Titans in the third period after Leji Rittof intercepted a pass on the Don 43 and U.S.F. in the fourth period when Harmon Rowe intercepted a pass and ran 50 yards to the Titan 10-yard marker. The Titans were in trouble until Joe Parke batted down a pass in the end zone. GENE MALINOWSKI contributed a run of 55 yards and Bill Haley finished the task with a 26-yard touchdown sprint. Bob Hart missed the extra point.
