WHILE TONY JUGGLES- pPrrROfT FRKK PRRS3 Sunday; 'March TX, TV-fl The Money Jingles ft A' By Bettelou IVteroti Free Press TV Writer P. "That's another reason why I limit my TV work and why I would never do a series. TV schedules call for a 13 to 18 hour day to save money for the producers. "I think that is going to be fixed when the Actor's Guild goes into negotiations with the TV producers soon. If the actor's get a break, everyone does." UNLIKE A few of his fellow actors who still view TV as a money-grabbing competitor, Tony sees it as a help to the movies.

"One place where it is very Important is in stimulating the development of new people," he said. "That can only help the movies who are always searching for fresh, new faces with acting experience." He doesn't see the new people as competition. "It's a big pie, there's enough for everyone," he said. "Ani I remember a movie I made when I was just coming along. and a fellow named Burt Lancaster who was very patient and helpful.

He is one of the big reasons why I am where I am today." 'A "5 "Juggler" Is a TV-Movie DouMeheader Your New TV Puzzle It I TV ACROSS Here's Top TV Puzzle Tony Curtis is an actor whose name is money in the bank. The fact that Tony will be part of a movie, TV film or series, is the major part of the collateral that brings the funds from banks and investment companies to pay the bills. He is one of a handful of actors whose association with a project, feel the bankers, will guarantee an audience, a fact borne out by box-office returns on his movies. THE BACKERS' faith in him is what enabled Tony to form his own company, Curtleigh Productions, named for Tony and hi3 actress wife, Janet Leigh. Curtleigh Productions is responsible for the dip he is taking into TV with Starlime's Tuesday feature, a drama titled.

"The Young Juggler," (XBC-TV, 8:30 to 9:30 p.m.) "Television gives me a chance to experiment with things I couldn't do in the movies," said Tony. "The two earlier films I did for G. E. Theater were both more serious than the type of movies I usually do. This is, too.

"WITH THE JUGGLER we tried something new. We made it so that it could be shown later in motion picture theaters. Not in the United States, of course, that would be silly after people have seen it on TV. "When we made it, we filmed enough additional scenes to fill out the story and bring it up to 90 minutes feature 'length. It runs 51 minutes on TV.

''Other producers have put together some TV films for theater release Walt Disney does it but as far as I know this is the first time -a ilm has been deliberately made for this dual purpose." TONY SEES his company going into TV with other projects. "We have an idea on a show with music. There's been all the nostalgic looks back at the twenties and thirties. I'd like to see a show on what going on today, in modern times, featuring progressive jazz, modern art, interesting people. I think it would be a show that would be educational and entertaining.

"I don't think I'd do it myself, I've got too many movie plans right now to think about any more TV." And he doesn't see any TV in Janet's future either. Janet, in fact, limits her movie-making. Both Curtises can be seen in "Who Was That Lady" currently on view at the Michigan Theater. All the TV plans and movie plans as well of the Curtleigh company is in the hands of experts. "I'm an actor." said Tony gruffly on the long distance telephone, "That's the buniness I know.

There are men out here who are experts at producing. It is, best to hire them. A person can't 3plit himself too many ways or he finds he doesn't do anything right." TONY WAS talking from the Curtis Beverly Hills home. In the background Kelly, 4, his older daughter shouted something at "Daddy" as she bounced through the room. He had the day off from his newest motion picture, "The Great Imposter," unaffected by the actor's strike because it is being made by Universal-International, one of the Hollywood studios which has already signed with actors and agreed on the big issue of the strike, payment of a percent of the sales prV of any of the studio's post-1948 movies when sold to TV.

"So far," said Tony, "the only movie that I've made that's been on TV is 'Beachhead' made for an independent producer." He added: "I believe in my union and I believe in what they are fighting for. I think the Guild will be successful in dealing with the producers." TONY SAID he manages a fairly normal home life in spite of his multiple activities. "My schedule is pretty regular. "My movie contracts have a clause that I don't work any later than 6 p.m. When you start at a.m., that' still a pretty long day.

"Many actors have such clauses in their contracts. And it' good for their work. After too many hours, an actor simply can not give his best. An actor uses his emotion and that can be more tiring than physical labor. 1,4 Pictured emcee II Man with 11 Everett in The Fever on Twilight Zone 14 Li'l Abner'i Kapp 15 Sesame 14 Tin Alley 17 Southern state (ah II Sportscaster Barber 23 Reception hall 22 Alec Guiness' title 21 Compass point 24 Part played by 44 across 25 Type measures 24 TV tryout 29 Wings 31 Tell the Truth 32 Concerning 33 Troy on Adventures in Paradise 3S TV sportscott qroup 31 Resort state (ab 39 Into Space 42 Valerie's nickname 44 Actor Miliand 45 Dr.
