WXON-TV, channel 62, ex pects to have equipment installed, tower up and sig-. nal ready to go on Sept. 15. The station is the Detroit area's seventh. Only viewers in Los Angeles, with 12 stations, New York with to, and Chicago with 8 have more TV viewine have more TV viewing choices than Detroiters.

For a start, cannel 62 will be on the air from 3 p.m. to about 2 a.m. every day. In pro-g a ing, says owner Aben Johnson e'r Bettelou starting slow- But i think we nave a series that people will enjoy and none of our movies are older than 1950." TWO SERIES, -Billy Walker's Country Carnival," and "Wilburn Brothers Show," are country and western programs featuring the big names country music. Neither show has been seen in the Detroit area before.

Another show unfamiliar to Detroiters, unless they could pick up Flint's channel 12, "Rae Dean and FMends." Frank Deal, the man behind the show's puppets, has joined WXON-TV to do a new version of the program "Rae Dean, Bugs Bunny and Friends," and also to host the "Daily Double Movie." Other WXON-TV programs are familiar shows like "The Ann Sothern Show" (Ann's second series in which she played Katy O'Connor), "My Friend Flick Lloyd Bridges' famous "Sea Hunt," "Leave It To Beaver," Richard Greene's "Robin Hood," the western, "Mackenzie's Raiders," and "The Phil Silvers Show," (Phil's second in which he was a factory man). The movies are Warner Brothers and United Artists Products, some English and European made, but mostly Hollywood products ranging from the Ray Milland-Grace Kelly "Dial M. for Murder" Probe Opens Into Death Plot on Dems CHICAGO (UPI) A federal grand jury will open an investigation Friday of rumors of a plot to assassinate Vice-President Hubert H. Owner Johnson said that plans to start out with a news program had been temporarily set aside.

"We want to do a good job and we felt that it would be best to' wait until we were settled on the air for a month or two before taking such a big step." THE STATION Is mulling several locally produced programs, said Johnson, including one which would feature Detroit area musical groups. This is Johnson's first venture into broadcasting. He is a Waterford real estate man Lakeland Estates is one of his developments. He first applied for the channel in 1964 and had hoped to get on the air last year. It's a rare TV station that makes it on its first announced target date however.

Original plans were for channel 62 to be one of four Detroit UHF stations sharing the tower built by WKBD-TV, channel 50, in Southfield. Johson decided later to build his own installation. The station building and tower are at 100 Decker Walled Lake. Both black and white and color equipment is being installed. "We are a Detroit station and expect to serve the entire Detroit Metropolitan area," said Johnson.

"We felt there was an opportunity to bring more variety to Detroit TV watching." Detroit's other independent UHF station, WKBD-TV, channel 50, regards the newcomer as both a challenge and a boon. "There is no doubt that they will be competition," said a station spokesman, "At the same time, another UHF channel can only help us by increasing interest in getting all channel TV reception." THERE IS ONLY one other TV channel allocated to the Detroit area, channel 20, now dark. WJMY-TV was bought by United Broadcasting Co. of Washington, D.C. several years ago after the original owners had to shut down.
