In celebration, the people at Warner Communications have started the Wonder Woman Foundation, which will provide financial grants for women 40 and older. Kahn said that Warner Communications had pledged $400,000 to the foundation during a two-year period, and that additional funds to assure the foundation's survival would come from benefits and special projects. She said the foundation also would give awards to outstanding women who had exhibited some of the qualities of Wonder Woman. In listing Wonder Woman's qualities, Kahn said: "She's peace-loving, independent, honest, courageous, compassionate, wise and humane, and she would rather convert her enemies to her point of view than subdue them." (Wonder Woman was created in 1941 for a predecessor of DC Comics by a psychologist named William Marston.) The board also includes Joan Kennedy; actress Linda Lavin; Eleanor Holmes Norton, former director and a former U.S. representative on the' United Nations Commission on the Status of Women, said: "American women of all ages, but most especially women over 40, have been inspired by Wonder Woman.

By providing economic assistance to women over 40, 1 believe we can make a real contribution to women's equality."
