Citizens Utility Board to offer money-saving tips at senior fair THE SOUTHERN MURPHYSBORO Illinois State Treasurer Dan Rutherford will speak at an I-Cash event Wednesday, Aug.1,at the Jackson County Walnut St. The purpose of the event is to determine if the state is holding any money or unclaimed property.More than 30,000 Jackson County owners have about $4 million in unclaimed property according to the July list of unclaimed property holders. I-Cash staff will be onsite from 1:30 to 3:45 p.m.Aug.1 to assist local residents locate unclaimed property.

The Super Splash Park Outdoor Aquatic Center is a new community project to be funded in part by a $2.5 million federal grant from the U.S.Department of Natural Resources. Carbondale Park District to host sponsorship dinner THE SOUTHERN JONESBORO The Shawnee Chapter of the Illinois Audubon Society Hummingbird Festival at Trail of Tears State Forest will be from 9 a.m.to 1 p.m.Saturday,Aug.4,at the State Forest Main Illinois 127 and Illinois 3 north of Illinois 146 in Union County. The festival will provide an opportunity to see these unique birds up close during their capture and banding.Vernon Kleen, Master Permit Bander and member of the Illinois Audubon Society Board of be capturing and banding the birds. hummingbirds will be captured by a unique, remote control trapping only long enough to record basic Kleen.

The conference will be Sept.15 at John A.Logan College in Carterville.The deadline for exhibitor applications is Aug.13. Exhibitor spaces are limited and reserved on a served basis.
