He was a U.S.Navy served honorably during World War II in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters.He was also a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner.He began work at an early gone to work full time at age 14 to assist his mother in raising his siblings after his untimely death. He was an avid bass fisherman and he loved to explore new areas.He retired after a lengthy career as a supervisor with Inland Steel Coal Co. Morton and Johnston Funeral Home in Benton is in charge of arrangements. Charlotte I.Thurman HIGGINSVILLE Charlotte I.Thurman,80,died Meyer Care Center. She was born Nov.14, Cincinnati to Henry and Emma (Schartz) Krauss.

She married Wallace Thurman on June Cincinnati. Charlotte worked as a nurse at Bethesda Hospital. Charlotte and Wallace lived in many places over the years as his ministry took them to different locations. Some of those places were River, She belonged to the PEO, Higginsville Garden Club, Bridge Club and was active in the Presbyterial until the last few years. She is preceded in death by a David; an infant brother; and a sister, Ruth Arnold.

She is survived byhus- Mark of Ann Calvert; one Logan Thurman; two step- and Michelle Calvert. Services will be at 10:30 a.m.today in First Presbyterian by Dr.Thomas D.Thomas. Burial will be in Missouri State Veterans Cemetery. Kaiser-Wiegers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Robert graduated from West Frankfort Community High School.He worked for Old Ben 8 for 10 years.When the mines slowed worked for New York Central Railroad in Chicago for five years.He worked for Freeman Coal 3 for 25 years until his retirement.He was a World War II served in the U.S.Army in France.

He was preceded in death by his parents. Surviving relatives include his Byrne of West Frankfort; Neil Byrne and of White Byrne of Baltimore and Kelly Byrne of Colorado Springs, Colo. She was born to the late Ray and Letta Mae (Lyons) Mansker on Aug.1,1930,in Chester.Rosemary was an office deputy for Randolph County Jail. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Women, treasurer for Chester Democratic for Randolph County Democratic member of Randolph County Democrat Club and Pierre Menard Democrat Club.Rosemary was also active in many Democratic during her recent stay in the nursing home.

Survivors include two daughters and son-in-law, Debbie Stenberg of Chester, Kathy and Bob Ruggles of Florida; three Biggs and Deirdre Leon; seven great-grandchildren, Ashley Phelps, Madilyn Leon, and Evangeline Leon. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, John Mansker; and one Bergman. Born on Williamson was the daughter of the late Grady Flener and the late Madge McAlpin. Mrs.McCarty married Robert Boren in 1934.He preceded her in death in 1942.She later married the Rev.J.D.McCarty in 1945. He also preceded her in death.

Barbara was born Sept.7,1946,in Ralph and Edith Louise (McCallister) Upchurch.She married Leonard Sneed on May 28, West Frankfort. Together they shared more than 44 years of marriage. Barbara retired from Marion Memorial Hospital, where she worked in housekeeping for 20 years. She was a member of Flatts Missionary Baptist Church in Benton.She and Leonard enjoyed country line dancing together.She also enjoyed taking pictures and spending time with her grandchildren. Survivors include her Sneed of Grantsburg; Manier and Grantsburg; Sneed and Johnston City; four Manier of Hope of Johnston and Shawn Sneed of Johnston City; two Upchurch of St.Charles, Upchurch of Orient; two Burgess of Herrick and Farina; Schwartz of Mount Vernon; also survived by several nieces and nephews.
