Eight cases were reported to the agency by Dr. William Stone, director of ophthalmic plastics research at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary in Boston. covered occurred in the past two or three years. Although contact lenses have been sold in this country for more than 10 years, lenses made of plastic instead of glass have been in use for only about seven or eight years, Stone said.

Stone, who will report his findings in a forthcoming Issue of the New England Journal of Medicine, said all contact lens wearers ought to consult their doctors every eight to 12 months. He also said no one but a physician should fit them. Va-Sb. WILD CHERRY 29c NIKO BAN $1.89 BEAT NIC, Loz $1.19 that the FDA is discussing the problem with manufacturers. The agency has such power where drugs are concerned, but it does not now extend to devices. Michigan law permits only optometrists, physicians and osteopaths to insert or remove contact lenses from human eyes, according to Dr. C. J.
