Indiana was placed on probation for four years on April 27, 1960, and all its athletic teams were barred from participation in any national championship events as well as from NCAA television appearances for the period of probation, THE HOOSIERS requested that the sanctions affecting sports other than football be eliminated.

They pointed out that a Big Ten penalty after the NCAA probation had been lifted when corrective measures were taken. Indiana also contended that it was not fair to penalize other sports when the violations occurred only in football. Executive director Walter Byers said that the Council believed the penalties were jus tified and that the penalties im posed by the Big Ten were "appropriate" in that the conference found violations in addition to those considered by NCAA. THE VIOLATIONS involved free transportation and cash payments to football players contrary to the regulations of both the NCAA and the Big had been placed on probation for one year for violations In recruiting prospective football players. IN TICKING Bradshaw, Kentucky turned to a star of its greatest gridiron era the late 1940's and early 1950's when Bryant led the Wildcats with All-America players such as Babe Parilli and Bob Gain into four straight bowl appearances. 1 Under Collier, Kentucky slipped steadily down the Southeastern Conference ladder. A native of Montgomery, Bradshaw began his coaching career after graduation from Kentucky in 1950 at a Montgomery high school. He came to Kentucky ss Bryant's assistant in 1954, and remained here when Bryant moved to Texas But after his former coach and boss moved on to Alabama, Bradshaw rejoined him there in 1959.

But such histrionics do not go unnoticed by the majority of -birdie-watchers. And, taking their cue from the ham, try to cure the camera -carrier with the shush treatment. But let a camera grinding out film for television be trained on the Jack Pars and it's a different story.

The difference being who takes the picture and what is in it for the guy who swings a club. WITH SEVERAL cameras in action, producers, directors, account executives, their assistants and in-laws and the many others used to get the scene on film within whispering range, PGA champion Jerry Barber and Dal Rees, a veteran British Ryder Cupper, had no trouble getting off their shots Sunday as TV's newest sports offering the Wonderful World of Sports made its debut Add to all the confusion attendant to a television show, the necessity of waiting long periods between shots while cameras and entourage are moved, and you wonder how the PGA-meches ever get their day's work done. Next week Jackie Burke, and Canadian star Stan Leonard will tee off at Banff, Canada, in the second of the Wonderful World series. It will be interesting to see if Jackie reacts the way he did a few years ago during a PGA tournament when a camera clicked. "Those photographers," raged Burke.

"One of them snapped a picture just as I hit an approach shot and I flubbed it. I could have buried my wedge in his head." IT ALL SEEMS kind of silly when you consider the high caliber of golf the pros shoot while being scrutinized by the glaring eye of a TV camera amid the bing, clatter and grinding noise. But then, the sound lfl much like that of a slot machine when it hits the jackpot. Tigers Sign Up Kcll, Harwell For 4 Seasons Those two fellows wearing the happy smiles Wednesday were George Kell and Ernie Harwell. They were signed to handle the Tiger broadcasts and telecasts through the 1965 season.

Kell and Harwell each had a year left on their old three-year contracts. These were scrapped and replaced by new pacts for the next four years. The coming season will be the fourth for Kell and the third for Harwell behind the Tiger microphone. Liston brought in Katz as his manager last spring in an attempt to rid his camp of underworld connections. In New York, meanwhile, heavyweight champion Floyd Patterson said that he is will ing to fight Liston for the title "under certain conditions." "They are not bad conditions," Patterson added.

"All I ask is a fair deal." The cham pion said that the fight must be held in the summer and preferably in New York. He said that something might be worked out in the next three or four weeks. Cap'n Joe Joe Schmidt of the Lions will captain the Western Division's defensive team in Sunday's Pro Bowl game at Los Angeles. Green Bay's Bart Starr will be the offensive captain. An Old Habit Gary Player, who topped golf's money winners last season, hasn't lost the touch.

He fired a 64 Wednesday to win the pro-amateur preliminary to day's San Diego Open. The victory was Player worth $500. Doug Sanders led the winning pro-am team, worth $400. Billy Casper aced the 207-yard 18th hole, worth a firm handclasp. A day later and the feat would have netted a new car.

Giant Step Linda Meyers of Bishop, won the women's giant slalom in Switzerland's Grin-delwald international ski races Wednesday, thus establishing herself as a threat for the world title. The 24-year-old student whipped the world's best as she raced down the course in one minute, 33.1 seconds. Earley Binl Among four signed contracts received by the Boston Red Sox Wednesday was that of Arnold Earley, a pitcher from Lincoln Park, Mich. Earley had a 2-4 record with the after compiling a 4-1 mark at Seattle. He scored his first at 15:45 of the third period after Don McKenney had deadlocked the game for the fifth time at 14:00 of the stanza. Keon added the clincher at 18:45.
