There's no such thing as 'good' or 'bad' music; there's only music that's poorly or well played. "But," he added, "I can stand anyone's narrowmind-ed view about this of that particular form of music which is his favorite. I can't stand phonies, however." COXOVEK, who will be the master of ceremonies for the two nights of the festival, is probably heard more often by more people the world over than any other man.

He has done the 90-minute "Music USA" program over the Voice of America six days a week for nearly seven years. "There is Conover no propaganda in the broadcasts, except that music itself is propaganda. This is no random, disk jockey type program," he said, "There Is an overall reason for each selection. "Each fits into the total daily picture and the daily program fits into the weekly picture." CON'OVER, dark, of medium height, bespectacled, with a rich, musical voice which betrays his calling, Is a busy man. He has just returned from a South American trip.

He will fly to Xew York for his radio program Saturday, then fly back for the festival opening Saturday night. "This trip is fine," he said, "I have quiet moments to relax." But no sooner had he said that than he w-as on the phone to New York, giving instructions for a program some weeks later. "While you are putting me on various programs," he told an exquisite public, relations lady, "I'm busy getting persons to be on my programs." Well, that's Willis Conover, who has emceed most important jazz shows in America, and will be the American Music Festival host this weekend.
