'WE HAVE A WOLF' DETROIT FREE PRESS Jan. 31. '78 5-C Russian Flu 1 Immunization Urged From UPI and AP WASHINGTON-Government influenza advisers Monday recommended a national immunization campaign against the Russian flu which was first identified in this country last week. If Health, Education and Welfare Secretary. Joseph Califano approves the recommendation, two vaccines would be produced for "high risk" groups thought to be most vulnerable to Influenza A- USSR-1977.

But one adviser, Dr. William Elsea, Fulton County, health commissioner, referred to the swine flu immunization campaign in 1976 and 1 warned: "A large proportion of the public and some professionals think we have cried wolf before." Death Notices GALLAGHER no wolf," responded Dr. June Osborn of the University of Wisconsin. "We do have a wolf. "We just don't know how tame that wolf is." The Russian flu has been identified among Cheyenne, high school students. Government health officials said it was no more severe in terms of fever and other effects than other flu bugs.

Dr. William Foege, director of the Center for Disease Control, sought to allay the fears raised by the plagued swine flu inoculation campaign 1976. stressed the risks from problem inoculation were relatively small, roughly one in two million, or 0.5 per million. That is less than the 0.59 deaths per million caused by lightning each year, he said. THE SWINE FLU inoculation campaign in 1976 came to a rapid halt after some persons who were inoculated contracted Guillain-Barre Syndrome, a paralyzing disease that can lead to death.

The swine flu epidemic never occurred. Although considered relatively mild, the Russian flu has spread rapidly among children in the Soviet Union and elsewhere in Europe and Asia. It struck more than 30 percent of children 14 and younger in Leningrad in recent weeks. The panel recommended Monday that a vaccine be produced for persons under age 24 with cystic fibrosis, heart disease or other chronic illness. Children and young adults are less likely to have immunity.

A vaccine containing protection against as many as three other flu strains if necessary would be prepared for all other persons, with priority given to adults with chronic illness and persons over age 65. He learned all the cowboy jobs from roping and branding to fast-draw shooting. He mingled with the Indian tribes and was adopted into two tribes. McCoy's expertise in sign language while in the cavalry helped him talk intelligently with the various tribes. He became a colonel in charge of Indian reservations. In 1923, Paramount Pictures was about to make "The Covered Wagon" and asked the government for a man who could handle Indians.

McCoy was recommended, and he brought 500 Indians to Hollywood. When the picture was finished he organized a troupe and toured the nation, then took his band of Indians abroad. McCoy returned to Hollywood and made scores of films, playing both western and straight dramatic roles. McCoy had served with distinction in both world, wars and won a string of decorations, including the Legion of Merit and campaign ADVERTISEMENT Worried About How You'll Look With a Hearing Aid?
