Perhaps the biggest threat to Channel 50 is the challenge to the "Ten O'Clock News." Beginning Sunday, TV-2 will run an "Eyewitness News at 10" with anchors Rich Fisher and Huel Perkins. The matchup of contrasting styles should prove interesting. TV-2 offers a conventional local newscast lively, fast-paced, hardhitting, featuring strong on-air personalities. Pistons and Red Wings games typically achieve ratings of about 8 among men, which is slightly above ratings for the Fox prime-time shows. Tiger baseball is projected to do at least as well provided there's base-. ball at all. If and when hockey and baseball resume, Channel 50's Prange will be able to choose which games to broad- cast more freely than he did' when he had to juggle Fox shows. Fearful of having its lineup disrupted, Fox refused to allow WKBD to run sports two nights in a row, or even two weeks in a row on the same day.

Channel 50 also owns the rerun rights to the most popular sitcoms on TV, including "Home Improvement," "Roseanne," "The Simpsons," "Murphy Brown" and "Fresh Prince of Bel-Air." In an intriguing but risky ploy, Prange will turn Thursdays into a night of sitcom reruns, led Simpsons" in its old time slot of 8 p.m., followed by "Fresh Prince," "The Simpsons" again and "Roseanne." It's unlikely, though, that many viewers will be lured away from NPC's powerful Thursday sitcom lineup. Uncertain, too, is how Paramount's new shows will fare. The centerpiece is a new "Star Trek" spinoff, called "Star Trek: Voyager," which nicely complements the other "Star Trek" shows on Channel 50. "The anticipation for 'Voyager' is huge," Prange says. Mondays, "Voyager" will be followed by two sitcoms, "Platypus Man," about the host of a cable TV cooking show who struggles to meet women, and "Pig Sty," a Fox-like show about five guys who share an apartment and lust after the building's beautiful female superintendent.

Tuesdays, the lineup features an action-adventure show called "Marker," starring former Fox star Richard Grieco, and an anthology series called i ca an iatu vikuuici ju (WKBD-TV) will still broadcast the Fox Children's Network, including "The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers."
