23, '77 16-B Wednesday, Mar. DETROIT FREE PRESS Grinnell Builder Wainger Dies Jack J. Wainger, who bought Grinnell Bros. in 1955 and developed the music store into the largest chain of music stores in the country, died Tuesday at Sinai Hospital after a brief illness. He 1 was 69.

Mr. Wainger, of Birmingham, was chairman of American Music Stores ail investment company. It operated 62 music stores in 10 states, including Grinnell's, and operated the Wright Kay Co. jewelers. The company sold the stores last June.

Mr. Wainger graduated from Cass Technical High School and began his career as a radio with Cunningham salesman, He left Cunningham's soon to form his own music store in Pontiac. In 1955 he bought Grinnell's. Jack HE WAS president of the National Association of Music Merchants from 1967 to 1969 and served as chairman and vice-chairman of the American Music Conference from 1970 to 1975. He was also a past director of the Retail Merchants Association of Detroit, a member of the Central Business District Association, and a director of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra Association and the Detroit Grand Opera Associatin.

He was active in several Jewish organizations and a member the board of directors of Sinai Hospital. Mr. Wainger is survived by his wife, Ruth, two daughters, Mrs. Judith Zweig of Birmingham and Mrs. Janice Shulak of La Jolla, and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Ira Kaufman Chapel, 18325 W. Nine Mile, Southfield. Alison Grierson, W.IR Secretary Services for Alison Maria Grierson, a retired secretary with radio Station WJR. will he at 2 p.m.

Thursday at the Bouton Reynolds Funeral Home, Stamford, Conn. Miss Grierson, 82, of Detroit, died Monday in Deaconess Hospital. She was a secretary in Washington, New York City and Detroit from 1914 until her retirement in 1971. She was a native of Rye, N.Y., and a graduate of the Merrill Business School in Port Chester, N.Y. Surviving are two sisters and one brother.

Arthur O. Misch, Contractor Services for Arthur 0. Misch, founder and owner of the Arthur O. Misch general contractors, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Salem Lutheran Church, Iroquois and Forest.

Mr. Misch, 85, of Riverview, died Tuesday in Wyandotte General Hospital. retired four years ago. He was a member of the Harsens Island St. Clair Flats Association and the German American Cultural Center.

Surviving are his wife, Alina: two daughters, Mrs. Kenneth Shelly and Mrs. Ray Hunter, one brother, seven grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren. Deaths Jack J. Wainger Matilda Pushaw, Chalmers Secretary Services for Mrs.

Matilda C. Pushaw, former secretary to the president of the Chalmers Motor Car witt be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Verheyden Funeral Home, 16300 Mack. Grosse Pointe Park. Mrs.

Pushaw, 91, of Grand Rapids, died Sunday in Bodgett Hospital there. Surviving are sons, Frederic and David; two daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Heindel and Mrs. Lorraine Stafford, one sister, one brother, 19 grandchildren and 16 greatgrandchildren. Earl H.

Zoar, Oil Company Owner Services for Earl H. Zoar, former owner of the Commercial Oil Co. in Detroit, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in the R.G. G.R.

Harris Funeral Home, 14751 W. McNichols. Mr. Zoar, 69, died Monday in his Southfield home. Survivors include his wife, Pauline: a son, Earl and five grandchildren.

Edward M. Lane, Schools Manager Services for Edward M. Lane, 80, retired Detroit Board of Education business manager, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Wm. R.

Hamilton 820 E. Maple, Birmingham. A lifetime resident of Detroit, Mr. Lane served 52 years with the Board of Education, 30 of them as business manager, before he retired in 1967. Surviving are his wife, Margaret; two daughters, Mrs.

Shirley Erickson and Mrs. Mary Ann Simescu; one son, William; 15 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and one sister. Charcle Lee Farley, Mother of 2 Singers Services for Mrs. Charcle Lee Farley, co-owner of the Collingwood Bar and mother of two well-known pop singers, will be at 11 a.m. Wednseday at the Bethel AME Church, 5050 St.

Antoine. Mrs. Farley, 56, died Sunday in Los. Angeles after a long illness. She also sold real estate and was a member of the Cotillion Wives.

Surviving are her husband, Samuel, and two daughters, Scherrie Payne, who is with the Supremes, and pop singer Freda Payne.
