Purdue 58, Iowa 13: Quarterback Mark Herrmann passed for 439 yards and three touchdowns as 17th-ranked Boilermakers took their 20th straight victory over the Hawkeyes. Playing at home, Purdue reached their highest point total since 1947. Herrmann's total briefly gave him the Big Ten single-game record.

But Illinois' Dave Wilson, who set the former record of 425 yards three weeks ago against Purdue, regained the record later Saturday against Ohio State. Minnesota 31, Indiana 7: Minnesota's Gary White rushed for 145 yards and two touchdowns to help the Gophers whip Indiana in Minneapolis. It was the third straight victory for Minnesota, raising its Big Ten record to 4-3. The Hoosiers saw their post-season bowl hopes fade as a number of bowl representatives witnessed the rout. COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) Seventh-ranked Ohio State managed to win Saturday, despite national passing record of 621 yards set by Illinois quarterback Dave Wilson, hanging on for a 49-42 victory that kept the Buckeyes tied for the Big Ten football lead.

Wilson, playing under a court order, broke the national major college mark of 571 yards set by Marc Wilson of Brigham Young against Long Beach State In 1977. Wilson's performance overshadowed a brilliant performance by Ohio State quarterack Art Schlichter who led the Buckeyes to their eighth victory In nine games this season. The Buckeyes are 6-0 in the league and tied with Purdue and Michigan for the lead. Illinois fell to 3-6-1 overall and 3-4 In the Big Ten. Schlichter threw four touchdowns and became the Buckeyes' all-time career total yardage leader with 5,735.
