to the seven yard line where yet another freshman sensa tion Harold Green scored on a sparkling run to put the Gamecocks on top 24 20 with 5 00 remaining The Huskers were then stopped on their next possession and forced to punt where the Gamecocks took over at their own 20 On second and six from their 24 the Gamecocks coughed the football loose when Ellis hit Raynard Brown for a short gainer Brown was hit hard on the play and had the ball stripped away and Siebier fell on the loose football at the Gamecock 26 Three plays later Taylor on a play fake hit Millikan in the left comer of the endzone to put the Huskers back on top 27 24 with 1:26 remaining But the Gamecocks in one of their most impressive showing in a 1 4 season stormed back and almost pulled the game out Brown returned the ensueing kickoff out to the 42 where 15 yards were added on because of a face mask violation by the Huskers giving South Carolina a first down at the Nebraska 39 Ellis hit wide receiver Danny Smith with a big third down 16 yard gainer to keep the drive alive with 1:05 to play for a first down at the Nebraska 19 After an incomplete pass Ellis again dropped back to pass but Siebier was there to in tercept at the goal line and ran the ball back 10 yards where Nebraska ran out the clock for the victory have to feel sorry for South Carolina They have a tremendous ball team but they have dug themselves a hole at 1 4 and not a 14 ball head coach Tom Osborne said after the game as his Huskers improved to 4 0 Carolina did what they done until the end of the game and that was turned the ball repeat of the game last weeK wnen tney almost beat Georgia but lost 31 26 However head coach Joe Morrison nor the 73109 fans at Williams Brice Stadium can hardly be disappointed in the play of the Gamecocks against heavily favored Huskers "I was very proud of our young men and the way they played this Morrison said played their hearts out for 60 minutes against a great team with a fine and well earned tradition Give Nebraska credit they took advan tage of their situations there is no question this is a tough loss I was proud of the way the team bounced back after the Georgia loss and I know they will bounce back again They have pro ven that they can play with the top teams in the country and hopefully this game will help their con he added The loss overshadowed a brilliant performance by
