Members of the Junior Fair Board Fair Committee, led by Carri Walker, have put their creative energy into making this fair more focused on the exhibitors, and providing opportunities for them to interact and have fun. The committee is made up of seven students representing Don Lugo and Chino FFA clubs and Monte Vista 4-H. The fair will take place July 5 to 9 at Chino Fairgrounds with the usual rigorous schedule of animal shows and judging for area FFA and 4-H clubs. Each evening, an event will involve participants in social activities. Events planned are a hay bucking competition, watermelon eating contest, line dancing and barnyard Olympics.

When Mrs. Walker took over fair planning last year, she spoke of making changes by taking baby steps, and building the fair into an event with more community involvement. students did a watermelon eating contest at last fair, and something that was more like a straw-stacking contest, and it was a chance for the clubs to interact with each Mrs. Walker said. the committee decided that maybe we should do something at the end of each could bring people together, all from different chapters and this is a chance to have fun said committee member Emily Beauchamp, a Don Lugo FFA member.

This year, events will be limited to Junior Fair participants, but Mrs. Walker said that in the future the hope is to extend more fair events to the community. Members of the Chino Junior Fair Committee are: Emily Beauchamp (left), Don Lugo FFA; Jordan Zavaleta, Don Lugo FFA; Le- lynn Ditsler, Monte Vista 4-H; John Kane, Monte Vista 4-H; Cesar Torres, Chino FFA; Robert Hizey, Chino FFA. is the next change, and if it goes well and we can handle it, maybe next year we will be able to open those events to the Mrs. Walker said. The Home Arts show is open for public participation, Mrs. Walker said. The Home Arts show was open to the public last year and drew limited participation, she said.

This Home Arts entries will remain on display through Friday, July 8, so that those who attend the Auctions and Awards Barbecue that evening will be able to view the entries. Classes of Home Arts include: baked goods, salsa, photography, clothing and textiles, jewelry, table setting, bling-a-shoe, oriculture and paper arts. The exhibit is open to adults age 18 or older in San Bernardino and surrounding counties. Prizes donated by local businesses will be awarded to Best of Show and Judges Choice. Fair committee members and auction committee members are all planning to show animals at the fair as well, and have had to work extra hard to perform all of their duties and have their animals prepared ahead of time, Mrs.

Walker said. John Kane of Don Lugo FFA will show a pig and rabbits; Cesar Tor- res of Chino FFA will show a market hog; Jordan Zavaleta of Don Lugo FFA will show a breeding ewe and market hog and will bake cookies as a Home Arts entry; Le- lynn Ditsler of Monte Vista 4-H will show a market goat and a horse; Robert Hizey of Chino FFA will show a year-old dairy heifer and market steer; Emily Beauchamp will show a bull calf and a sheep; and Monica Medina of Chino FFA will show a year-old dairy heifer. Every aspect will be student-run this year, Mrs. Walker said.

In addition, this year the Chino Junior Fair will allow college students to enter as showmen, but they will not compete for placement. Some students from Cal Poly Pomona will show livestock. A large number of guinea pigs are entered this year, and poultry numbers are high as well, Mrs. Walker said. Other classi cations include rabbits, goats, dogs, swine, lambs, costume, landscape and more.
