lead while the Tar Heels dropped to 7 2 overall and 3 1 in the league to share second place with Maryland opponent next week The North Carolina attack was bolstered by the partial duty of tailback Kevin Bryant and quarterback Rod Elkins However Bryant was obvi ously not the same runner that had scored 15 touchdowns if four games before being in jured in the Georgia game nearly a month ago Elkins was little better as he played half of the first period and much of the second before leaving the game with a reinjured ankle thought if he could go 25 plays that would be a good day for coach Dick Crum said of his star tailback missed so much time that not in the best of Bryant carried 13 times and gained only 31 yards as the Heels managed just 84 yards on 42 carries against the tenacious Tiger defenders think the injury stopped Bryant as much as we Clemson coach Danny ord said ord told his players after the game that maybe the coaching staff had the team a little to high and said
