While Carroll's excited about "Lonesome Dove," she's dismayed by what she sees on television today. She labeled much of what's on the air "disgraceful." "There are several messages that are so negative that I don't understand how our young people have any positive morality at all. I think the message on 'Married With Children' is just disgusting." Carroll's seen a lot of changes in television in her many years in the industry.

"I've seen the gentlemen concerned with the dollar running the industry. I think that's what's played an enormous part in the deterioration of our quality. Very few people who are a part of creating things for television are there because they had a dream of something they wanted to do, or say, or be a part of. It's about the formula work. "There are a few exceptions.

I think 'Mad about You' is quite good and well-written. 'Frasier' is excellent. The writing is excellent, the acting is wonderful. But for the most part (television's) a difficult thing to watch."
