FRIDAY, JUNE 21, 1968 Florence Morning News New Miss Florence to Be Crowned in Pageant Tonight Dark-eyed, dark-haired Miss Marcia Welch will wind-up her year-long reign as Miss Florence 1968. Friday night by crowning her successor from a field of 12 contestants during the annual Jaycee-sponsored Miss Florence Pageant. The pas pageant, based on the theme "Thoroughly Modern Misses" will begin at 8 p. m. in the McClenaghan High School MISS SUSAN ROBINSON MISS JOYCE TOMLINSON MISS KATHY PARROTT auditorium.

According to officials, this year's event will actually be a "pageant within a pageant" as the Florence Jaycees stage their first "Mr. Good Looking and Charm" competition in between the different divisions. The Mr. Good Looking and Charm" contest will be emceed by Miss Welch. Selecting the new Miss MISS DARLENE MISS SHERRY CLARK MISS DEBBIE CARRAWAY Florence will be a panel of judges composed of Pegge Lee of Concord, N.

Charles E. Hodges of Loris and Mrs. Margaret Harris of Sumter. Glenn Arnette will be pageant emceee. Music will be provided by Miss Melle Blattner, pianist, and Joe Privette, percussionist.

Pageant chairman and director, respectively, are Jaycees Paul Heger and Nathan Pridgen. Betty Stephens Humphries is pageant producer and Roz Turbeville is chairman of the Misses Committee. Set construction is by Ralph Sebrall. The day's activities will begin at 10 a. m.

with a brunch sponsored by the Pepsi Cola Co. at Hornes Restaurant, to acquaint contestants with the judges. At noon, a parade will form at Hornes, proceed down Irby to Palmetto Street. From there the motorcade will wind down Palmetto through the Florence Mall, down Evans Street through the Downtown Promenade, right on Dargan Street to Palmetto and back to Horne's Restaurant where the contestants will lunch. Chandler Curtis A. Graham OLANTA Graveside services for Mrs. Sybil Floyd Hall, of Indianapolis, and formerly of Olanta, will be conducted at 11 a. m. Saturday in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery by Rev.

Lloyd Brunson and Rev. W. G. Boatwright Floyd Funeral Home is in charge. Mrs.

Hall died Monday in Indianapolis after a long illness. She was a daughter of Mrs. Nellie Pigate Floyd and the late Sam Floyd of Florence County. Surviving, besides the mother, are the husband, Woodrow Hall of Indianapolis; a daughter, Mrs. Peggy Boneman of Indianapolis; two sons, Woodrow Hall Jr.

and Ricky Hall, both of Indianapolis; a sister, Mrs. Donnie Atkinson of Turbeville; and two grandchildren. J. K. Weatherford Funeral seryices for James Kistler Weatherford, 66, will be conducted at 4 p.

m. Friday in the Stoudenmire Chapel by Dr. R. Bryce Herbert. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Milton Gamble, Charlie Rawlinson, Louis Rawlinson, Dr. J. Lucian Weatherford, W. Weatherford and Judge Wade S. Weatherford Jr.

The family will be at the home of his brother, Wade S. Weatherford. Sr. on the Darlington Highway. Walter J.

Warr, 94, of 141 North Harllee Street died Wednesday afternoon at his home following a long illness. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Friday in Waters Funeral Home Chapel by Major Gordon Hyde. Burial will be in the Florence National Cemetery. Serving as active pallbearers will be Pat Trimnal, Bill Trimnal, Bob Trimnal, Robert Watson, Robert Trimnal, and Jimmy Finley.

He was a native of Darlington County and was a son of the late Jesse J. and Laura Isgett Warr. He was a veteran of the Spanish American War. Mr. Warr was a member of the Salvation Army and a member of the Fellowship Club of the Salvation Army.

He was twice married, his first wife being the late Rebecca Maynor who died in 1938. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Walter J. Warr of Florence who was the former Barbara Lundy: five daughters, Mrs. E.

O. Trimnal of Gastonia, N. Mrs. Marion Sullivan, Mrs. Hardin Taylor, Mrs.

Evelyn Jones, and Mrs. Robert Craft all of Florence; two sons, Andrew J. Warr of Camden and Warr of Florence; and two stepdaughters, Mrs. Richard Neel of Florence and Mrs. William Clark of Pittsburgh, Pa.

Funeral services will be conducted at 4:30 p.m. Friday in the Waters Funeral Home chapel by Dr. Edward L. Byrd and Rev. John M.

Harris. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be M. L. Cooke, June 0.

Chandler, the former Miss Jean Edmundson, was born in Tennessee a daughter of the late G. A. and Martha Crenshaw Edmundson. She lived her early life in Tennessee, Georgia and Florida before coming to Florence in 1920. She was a member of the First Baptist Church; the Maxey Gregg Chapter of the U.

D. C. and the Senior Citizens Club. Mrs. Chandler, no wretired work several years as a saleslady with the Nofal Department Store.

Surviving are two sons, Thomas E. Chandler of Oceanside, Calif. and Walter 0. Chandler of Florence and three grandchildren. Friends may call at the home of her son at 601 S.

Warley St. Arthur L. Floyd NICHOLS Arthur Lawrence Floyd, 78, died Thursday in a local hospital. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday in Cedar Creek Baptist Church.

Burial, directed by Meares Funeral Home of Mullins, will be in the church cemetery. In addition to the wife, surviving are five sons, Grady Floyd of Mullins, Minus Floyd of Florence, Malcolm Floyd of Thomasville, N.
