FRIDAY, AUGUST 12. 2011 GEORGE C. CASADAY George C. Casaday, who lived to the golden age of 86, died Wednesday, August 10, 2011, at EAMC. He was born on April 25, 1925, in Macon County and lived there his whole life.

Mr. Casaday served his country in the U.S. Navy in World War II. He leaves behind his son Richard C. (Kathie) Casaday of Auburn; his daughter Anita Gayle (Jim) Batchelor of Murietta, CA; his grandchildren Richard Adam Casaday and April Elaine Casaday; his great grandchildren Thomas Brandon Casaday and Christian Adam Casaday; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Saturday, August 13, at First Baptist Church of Notasulga at 10:00 A.M. Rev. Tim Moore will officiate. Graveside services will be private. Visitation will be Friday, August 12, from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M.

at Corbitt's Funeral Home in Tuskegee. MRS. JULIA SIMS CRUZ The funeral service for Julia Sims Cruz, 83, of Auburn, AL, will be at 12:00 noon, Saturday, August 13, 2011, at True Deliverance Holiness Church, with interment in Alabama Heritage Cemetery in Montgomery, AL, Bishop Nolan Torbert officiating, followed by a Repast at the Notasulga Community Center. Mrs. Cruz, who peacefully passed away Monday, August 8, 2011, at the Bethany House in Auburn, AL, was born December 11, 1927 in Macon County, Alabama.

Public viewing will be Friday, August 12, 2011, from 2:00 p.m. 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A memorial service will be Friday, August 12, 2011, at 6:00 at Community Church of Jesus, Inc. 2314 Lee Road 27, Opelika, AL, 36804, 334-749-5949.

Mrs. Cruz will be at the church one hour prior to the service. Precious memories will be cherished by: three sons, Gregory Tucker (Virginia) of Jamaica Queens, NY, Kalvin Johnson (Linda) of Atlanta, GA and Paul Cruz of Auburn, AL; six daughters, Barbara J. Jackson of Auburn, AL, Patricia Adams -(Darryl) of Edgewater Park, NJ, Karen Kirksey of Canton, OH, Sabrina Morris, Sincera "CC" Cruz and Serita Cruz Jackson (Eddie) all of Auburn, AL; two goddaughters Keysha Woods (George) of Auburn, AL and Angelia Rowe (Eric) of Opelika, AL; one godson, Montae Jackson (Almetria) of Opelika, AL; two sisters, Louise Askew of Barberton, OH and Gwendolyn Richardson (John) of Tuskegee, AL; two brothers, Esau Sims (Eleanor) of Barberton, OH and Jacob Sims (Alice) of Notasulga, AL; three sisters-in-law, Ruth Sims of Barberton, OH, Adeline Cruz (Joseph) Gatewood of Euclid, OH and Mary Cruz Owens of Mattapoisett, MA; thirty-six grandchildren; forty-nine Community Calendar FRIDAY SATURDAY AUG. 12 AUG.

13 The first in a series of PBS point-of-view documentary films will be screened at The Gnu's Room beginning at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12, with "Biblio Burro: The Donkey Library," the story of one man's dedication to bringing books to children in remote villages. Luis Soriano, a teacher in the small town of La Gloria, Colombia, has spent the past ten years bringing books to children of the rural communities on the backs of his donkeys. This film series is a collaborative effort between The Gnu's Room and The Caroline Marshall Draughon Center for the Arts Humanities in the College of Liberal Arts at Auburn University.

Visitation is Friday from 6-8 p.m. at Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home. Mr. Edwards was born December 10, 1930 in Lee County. He passed away August 9, 2011 at East Alabama Medical Center.

He had been a lifelong resident of Lee County and the Sandhill Community. He was a U.S Army Veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Edwards was self-employed as owner of Edwards Logging Company for 25 years. Prior to that effort, he worked in building construction as a carpenter.

Irvin had a keen interest in antique tractors and often attended shows featuring them. He was preceded in death by sister, Zelda E. Carroll and brother, Milo Edwards. He is survived by wife of 50 years, Jackie Edwards of Auburn; son, Wade Edwards of Auburn; daughter, Teleeda Edwards of Auburn; three sisters, Janice E. Pace of Auburn, Marian E.

Givens of Lilburn, GA, and Betty E. Boyton of North Port, AL. The Museum on Main Street's exhibition "Journey Stories" will open Saturday, Aug. 13, at the United Way building, 19 Main St. in Alexander City.

The exhibition will examine the intersection between modes of travel and Americans' desire to feel free to move. "Journey Stories" tells the story of how we and our ancestors came to America. Homemade donuts with peach filling and coffee will be given away from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 13, at Sike's Pet and Farm Supply.

Sike's is located on East Glenn Avenue next to the John Deere store. This summer, Sike's has hosted a farmers market every Saturday from 9 a.m. to It features fresh vegetables, homemade 1p.m. breads, Chilton County peaches, jams and Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be directed to Children's Hospital in Birmingham. www.jeffcoattrant.com OLIVIA COLLINS POOLE Olivia Collins Poole, died in Montgomery, Al. on Monday, August 1, 2011. Olivia was born on May 9, 1911 in Opelika, Al. to Charles Benjamin and Luella Talbot Collins. A great joy in Olivia's life was this past May, when all of her beloved children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and friends (to most of whom she was known as "Granny" or gathered to celebrate her 100th birthday.

Olivia was a gifted seamstress, whose specialty was french hand sewing. Olivia made many quilts, dresses, day gowns and Christening gowns as gifts for family and friends. She was also an avid reader and a great cook. "Granny" made the absolute best fried chicken and She was loved and cherished, and will be missed; but has certainly made Heaven an even sweeter place. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 13 at 11AM at Oaklawn Cemetery in Centreville, MS.

She was a long time resident of Mobile, AL. Centreville, MS, and Opelika, AL. She was predeceased by her husband, James Carl Poole; a grandson, Kevin Poole Van Claeve; a son-inlaw A. Mrs. Stroud is survived by daughters, Pam (Don) Eddins of Montevallo, Jaclynn (Kirk) Lane of Columbia, SC; son, Richard (Shelba) Stroud of Tusca-1 loosa; grandchildren, Robert (Katie) Upfield of Annapolis, MD, Lyndsay Upfield, of Columbia, SC, Davis Stroud of Tuscaloosa, Jennifer Stroud of Tuscaloosa; brother, Parker (Ruth) Childress of Roanoke; sister-in-law, Mary Helen Childress of Carrolton, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.
