thunderstorms The thunderstorms were most active over the nor thwestern corner of the state around Huntsville Muscle Shoals and Hamilton Thunderstorm rains at Muscle Shoals amounted to just over an inch 102 Howeverby dawnthe precipitation along the front had diminished considerably At 500 am cdt the cold front reached from near Huntsville to near Macon Miss and was moving steadily to the southeast The front will continue to drop southeastward across the state to dayproducing scattered showers and thunderstorms out ahead of it The best chance for rain today will be over east central and south Alabama Clearing skies and dry conditions will prevail behind the front over much of north and west central Alabama today The cold front is expected to move out of the state this evening followed by some fair and cooler weather tonight It will actually be quite chilly over north Alabama by sunrise on riday where temperatures are expected to bot tom out in the mid and upper 40s Lows in Gene Webb and David Chandler officiating Mr Dailey died Wednesday Sept 25 1985 at the VA Hospital in Tuskegee He was born on April 9 1925 in Lanett Mr Dailey was a graduate of Lanett High School and Auburn University where he received a degree in electrical engineering He was a veteran of World War II He worked as a sales engineer with Westinghouse for many years ollowing his retire ment Mr Dailey worked as an elec trical engineer with Duke Power Co He had been in declining health for about four years Survivors include two sons Dan Dailey the Panama Canal Zone Gordon Dailey Massachusetts nephews and other rela tives Ward's uneral Home is handling the arrangements Village Theater Shows Last Movies As Bank Makes Plans By CATHY CAMPBELL A News Staff Writer Tonight the rocking chair theater will sell its last ticket someone will sweep up the popcorn dropped by overloaded fists and the seats will release the last viewers with a final squeak In a few months the ticket booth and the concession stand will be replaced with desks and computers and bank personnel from Auburn National Bank The money institu tion completed the purchase of the Village Theater earlier this week Bank President Bill Walker said the space is needed to alleviate traf fic problems and that Plitt Theatres who owned the Village Theater was ready to sell when bank officials called with an offer were lucky to get it although it was more luck than he said have a serious problem with traffic flow and our first objective is to correct Walker explained second objective is additional parking space and the third is addi tional office Lloyd Hill and Associates of Atlanta specialists in bank ar chitecture will design the remodeling of the theatre and the parking area around the bank At this point however the property has been surveyed but no plans have been developed Walker said he hopes the plans will be ready after the beginning of the year with construction starting soon after The Village Theater often refer red to by Auburn folk as the rock ing chair theater opened its doors in May of 1969 and would seat approx imately 815 people In April of 1984 the movie house was converted to a twin theatre according to Beth Peaks manager Peaks has been manager of the Village Theater for 11 years During that time she also managed the Tiger Theater until it closed in April of 1984 (rom Suit Pl) want to allow the students to attend classes because it would set a harm ful precedent for future cheating cases The two students were disciplined June 12 for allegedly exchanging answers on a May 16 anatomy test the suit said The students both from Ken tucky contend the main evidence against them was similarities in their answers to seven of 28 ques tions on the test only evidence they (Auburn) had of any sort of cheating was statistical evidence that seven of their 28 answers on the exam were similar which is what you might expect considering they were study McPhillips said The students also allege there was no cross examination of witnesses during the university proceeding that resulted in their suspension The two students appealed the ethics review disciplinary action to veterinary school dean John Vaughn and Auburn President James Martin but both appeals were denied The suit named both Vaughn and Martin as defendants It also names rank Vice the chancellor of the Student Board of Ethical Relations and HC Morgan chairman of the veterinary Committee on Admissions and Standards Both men and the panels they chair reviewed the case before the stu dents were suspended In March Martin was criticized by faculty and students for reducing a student's penalty for cheating in an effort to avoid a lawsuit against Auburn our members of the eight member honesty all its theaters about five years ago to Plitt Theaters The purchase of the theater has doubled its size least dirt Walker said adding that Auburn National Bank now owns three and one half acres in downtown Auburn houses behind the building one of which was torn down Wednesday No plans have been made for the se cond house the president said Walker said the expansion and renovation represent an investment of more than $1 million for the bank Auburn National is the largest in dependent bank in this part of' the state and it has automatic teller The theater property extends through the block
