The rain finally let up in the third quarter, but Michigan continued on as before deliberately punching out the yardage and the touchdowns as the Hoosiers wore down.

Lytle cleared the 100-yard mark for the third straight game on his third carry of the second half but the U-M drive, which began at its own 16, died at the Hoosiers 18 when Davis fumbled and Indiana defensive end Carl Smith made the recovery. It didn't take long to get the ball back though and a 33-yard run by Lytle got the Wolverines going again. Leach completed the drive with his third completion in as many tries a 15-yard TD pass to Davis. Anderson, who had recovered an Indiana fumble earlier to set up a U-M score, intercepted an Arnett pass to make another one possible late in the third quarter.
