Chinarian, 39, is on trial in Detroit Recorder's Court for second-degree murder in the death of Wynn, 18, who was black. The shooting July 28 set off two nights of racial disturbances on the city's west side.

EARLIER prosecution witnesses most of them civilians testified that they found neither a weapon nor any evidence of a break-in when they arrived at the scene, following the shooting. Sgt.

Gilbert Hill, the homicide detective in charge of the case, testified that ha took a statement from Chinarian the morning after the shooting and that Chinarian told him he fired over Wynn's head. He said Chinarian told him that when Wynn fell, he thought Wynn had stumbled and didn't know that he hit him. He said he saw a shiny object in Wynn's hand and later discovered it was a knife. He said the interview was cut short when Chinarian told him he was exhausted and "couldn't think straight." Under cross-examination by defense attorney Nail Fink, Hill was asked about Chinarian's reputation in the business community in the area. Hill said it was "excellent." Chinarian is expected to take the witness stand in his own defense Tuesday.
