Oakland Prosecutor Sets Smut -y Guidelines L. Brooks Patterson If BY DAVE ANDERSON Fret Prow Staff writer Oakland County Prosecutor L. Brooks Patterson said Tuesday that if a book or movie tries to turn you on, it may be in legal trouble. Only Patterson put it in more technical terms. In his new guidelines for the county's adult entertainment industry, he defined hardcore pornography as "the graphic description or depiction of erotic behavior designed or intended to stimulate sexual excitement." Patterson added that while he has no Intention of becoming 1 "a county-wide art critic" or "assuming the role of a censor" he will prosecute businessmen who do not follow his guidelines after they have been warned once.

PATTERSON SAID he had no plans for going after magazines like Playboy, movies like "Last Tango in Paris," or e'en books like Ulysses which are considered serious attempts at art, even though they may be sexually arousing. "We are mainly concerned with the depiction of acts such as intercourse, felatio, cunnilingus, sodomy and masturbation," he said. Patterson said he established the guidelines to assist adult entertainment businessmen in avoiding arrest and prosecution under a U.S. Supreme Court decision handed down last month. He warned dealers that the sign "adults only" will no longer provide protection as it did under earlier court rulings.
