Beat egg whites and salt until stiff, adding remaining sugar gradually. Fold gently into the slightly thickened gelatin mixture and pour into a baked, chilled pie shell.

Checking through your Free Press Ration calendar (it appears daily on the front page of the second section) you will find that and red coupons expire on Monday, May 31, a holiday So, if you are going to spend them at all, you will have to use them this weekend. Red coup ons are "carry overs" which are valid now and usable through June 30. and blue coup ons expire next Fri- rlav Juno 7 Even those msa Voellmiff homemakers who budget their coupons carefully often come to the end of a period with a surplus sometimes many occasionally a few. It is with these few that we are concerned today.

Coupons can be dropped, of course. Those women who have huge supplies of home canned foods will do their country a service by purchasing only those rationed items which they need. There are some planners, however, who find menu-making under rationing difficult. They must rely on rationed foods stretching and extending them carefully to build many of their meals. For those of you in this group, we are suggesting a few rationed items which you can buy with small amounts of left-over coupons.

Point Values in Red Coupons SALAD AND COOKING oils cost five points a pound. These two plus some of the shortenings (also at five points) will keep for quite a long time without refrigeration. They make a good selection If you have difficulty with the fat problem. The cheese column offers a good selection. There are varieties of cheeses that are sold in glass and pottery containers.

Most of these weigh about five or six ounces and will cost you three points. The larger sizes at seven and three-quarter ounces will cost four points. Unopened they can be stored better than fresh cut cheeses. There are low point items in meats. Down at the bottom of your ration sheet you will find "Meats in tin or glass containers." There are a many good values to be found in this group.

Deviled ham in two and a quarter-ounce containers can be bought for one point; meat spreads at four and three-quarter ounces cost two points; Iamb tongue in nine-ounce jars are four points. Canned fish is a good buy for your emergency shelf list. Two and a half-ounce tins of sardines are one point, six-ounce cans of tuna, lobster or crab are but three points salmon in seven and three-quarter-ounce tins cost four points. Sizes of these meat, fish and cheese containers may vary according to the manufacturer. Nevertheless, they are all, for the most part, small packages and extremely low in point values.
