starting Aug. 30. will no longer be seen. Sonny Eliot's "Almanac" show, now at 1:10 p.m. moves to 4:55 p.m.

starting Aug. 30. Ron Gamble's now at 1:15 p.m., will be dropped. LEE ALAN'S "The Swinging Kind" was previewed Wednesday on WXYZ-TV. The show trod no new paths among the "big beat" programs.

Even the guests were the same that turn up on the other 40 similar a-go-gos. But to its credit, "Swingin' had better production than most of the Hollywood imports spread all over the local dials. Lee was low-key and dignified in his introductions, a change from the shouters who usually inhabit programs of this ilk and the setting, Metropolitan Beach, was used with freshness. But the lip sync of the numbers was very bad and the jumping gyrations of the "dancers" were annoying. Is there a law that a performer can't be seen without the armwaving background? By the way, if viewer response is to be the criterion for more "Swingin' Kind" shows, as Lee mentioned on his radio program later, just acnooicrati.

"We're very pleased that Fred will be with us to do special broadcasts the Gold Cup Race and other sports and special events," said Charles D. Fritz, vice president and general manager of WXYZ radio. "He will be spokesman for WXYZ at civic affairs and banquets and luncheons too, as public relations director." Fritz and his staff will start looking for a new man for the all night show immediately. A NEW children's show, a return for some TV comedies, and a group of movies never seen before In Detroit are in TV, channel 50, gets set to the works for fall as WKBD-spread out on the air.
