Mrs. Tryphena MeMillen, aged of near Marion Center, died In the OFFICIAL. NOTICE OF FALiL PRIMARY ELECTION Of Indiana County. Pennsylvania, with Be Fair to Register Assessors Editors The Progress: It seems that the Indiana County Commissioners make much ado, and person, while the Commission- 1 ers grab their 13,000.00 each and grin over the fact that the public does not notice that three Coin. missioners and clerks, draw total take great delight, i enlightening salaries of twelve thousand or more the tax payers and public, as to just i how much the Register Assessors are charging for their work.

Did the tax payers and voters ever take ihe time to note, it is nearly always the smaller offices and the light paying jobs that are brought to the notice of the public? While the little fellow is left holding the bag, it is the big office holder, wiio yells and recedes to the back ground with the large spoils. The Commissioners make much over Register Assessors, the smallest office in county. Register Assessors get one month of work, and are then shown up to the public for the awful cost of registering a year for the work that one Com- Performances Start at 3, 8 10 Daylight Saving Time Wed. Only today one Register Assessor was forced to deduct from her small pittance of $60.00, the amount of $10.00.

I call this an outrage and shame. That would have gone a long way toward paying the taxes 10 keep her house over her family. While, the people of Indiana county paid a large salary to a sheriff, a deputy, a county detective, constable, and state constabulary, the Commissioners have the nerve to offer of the tax payers money for the arrest of the person or persons who robbed the County Treasurer's office. While the House of (Mis-) Representatives took the honor of saving the tax payers the big sum of $10.00 per year, on each Register Assessor, they voted against bills that would have helped the public, such as the Railroaders Bills. Child Labor Law Amendment, Old Age Pensions, and several others.

While the Commissioners asked the Register Assessors to put in nine hours a day while assessing, they leave their work every Saturday at noon with no reductions. Tax payers and voters be not deceived. Keep your attention on the fellow who gets the large salary. The little office holder never makes or gets enough to eiist decently. RHODA M.

Rabbits Editors The Progress: Regarding the recent item in The Progress, en crows destroying rabbits, did you ever stop to think what a cnrse rabbits are to farmers? A rabbit will destroy more growing vegetables in one night than a crow will in a week. Let rabbits find your vegetable patch of beans, peas, cabbage and tomatoes and see what is left of it in a short time, unless you shoot the pests (and then you are liable to arrest). When rabbits are in season, you have to take out a license to hunt them; and, when Suburban Day Bargains Saturday, July 29 Our Complete Stock of Footwear is Offered at Special Prices on Suburban Day. The man or men who have rabbits sent into the country, should be appointed to watch over them so the little pests will not damage the gardens and orchards. Of course these "sportsmen" get a kick out of hunting rabbits in season, but in the meantime, let us have some of them replant the cabbage, tomatoes and other plants thai; are destroyed by rabbits and see the kick they get out of that.
