DETROIT FREE PRESS Tuesday, June 11. 1948 Pastel Sheer Is Answer for Wedding Guest i 1 i i League Asks Restoration of Rationing A plea for a return of food rationing wa sent -to President Truman Monday by the Michigan Branch of the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom. The VTL also asked for a world food organization to plan food distribution and urged the allocation of grain to starving people in India. OTHER resolutions passed by the group at a "poverty luncheon" on Saturday included an objection to the draft labor plan in strike resolutions as "completely Fascist and a violation of citizens' constitutional rights." The resolutions committee, headed by Dr. Alice Miles Woodruff, also urged that a letter be sent to President Truman asking for the cancellation of the atomic bomb test.

BY JEAX PEARSON Free Press Fashion Writer "What shall I wear to the wedding?" Whether it's bride, bridesmaid, member of the family or guest, that's the most frequent question, which comes to the fashion department. For the guest at a summer wedding, one answer is sketched today a sheer pastel crepe. It has just enough dressiness, just enough festiveness to make it appropriate. A TWO-PIECE outfit, the costume has eyelet and open, lacy trim on the short cap sleeves and at the waist. The trim is in a pastel color to match the crepe.

Design details of the jacket include a square neckline accented by a wide bow, four self-covered buttons and a peplum fullness below the waist. Skirt is straight-lined with a kick plait in front. Fashioned in shell pink, lime and powder blue, as well as other pastel hues, the outfit comes in sizes 9 to 15 for $21.95. For shopping information phone KAndoIph 8915 or write to the Fashion Writer, inclosing a self-addressed, stamped envelope for a reply. and ootpnes It it seldom possible to find so many, and such lovely fragrances together.

WHICH IS giving up before you've even put up a fight, if you ask me. Grace will never stop remembering her sailor. She'll never forget that she once loved him. But that has nothing to do with the possibility of her falling in love with you. After six weeks' acquaintance with her you insist that she give up her past and her memories and her dreams.

And concentrate on her future with you. Well a man to enter- tain her, amuse her, pay attention to her, and love her is the best thing in the world for Grace at this point. If you'd worry less about the man she used to like and do your best to make her like you you might get to first base. Give her time to find out that she has more fun with you than with anyone else she knows. Give her time to realize that she might fall in love again! "UNDER TWO FLAGS." "BEHIND THE USING SUN," Tea Naal-Marpp. ODO'RO'PO BY GRACE BARBER A woman's profile does not necessarily reveal her years. A double chin is far more ilkely to disclose posture habits, whether you're 20 or 40. If you slump your shoulders and carry your head forward or let it droop, you're bound to 'get a double chin and the dowager's hump that frequently accompanies it. An ounce of good posture is worth a pound of correction.

However, the correct exercise along with posture improvement can often undo the effects of years of bad carriage, but it takes time before you can see results. IN THE CASE of overweight, general reduction should accompany special exercise to improve your chin line. And when the skin loses its youthful elasticity the chin loses its clean, sharply denned line. Local stimulation massage or brisk patting is helpful in preserving the tone of the tissue. Remember, however, that not everyone is born with a classic profile.

Through no fault of our own the contour line may be far from chiseled! Here is the type of exercise to work at. Sit in a straight-backed chair or with your back against the wall. Chest should be high, back straight. Lift up with the back of the head to make yourself as tall as possible. Pay strict attention to your posture all the while you are doing such exercise or it loses its value.

Do it slowly. It doesn't matter so much how many times you do it as that you do it every day without fail. LET YOUR head fall forward, completely relaxed, but don't move your shoulders. Then lift the chin a little and push it as far forward as you can. Now forget about your chin and concentrate on the back of neck.

Slowly raise the head up and back and as you do. think of pushing each one of the seven vertebrae of the cervical spine back into a vertical position. To make yourself more conscious of what you're doing, place a finger or pencil at the base of your neck. Think of pushing back against it as you move it slowly up each vertebra. When the head is completely up and way of living and follow a reason able schedule.

She lived some three or four miles from her place of business. She had generally driven her own car to and from business. But for several months she left the car in storage and walked to work at first it was pretty rough on her just walking one way. But after a week or two she walked both ways and began to enjoy it. Supplementing her diet with ade quate vitamins, she felt so good all day that she never misses the fake stimulation or "life" of the usual alcoholic indulgence.

It's been that long since you met Grace. You're just head over heels crazy about her. But you're having cold chills run up and down your spine, too. Thoughts that have brought you up short. 'Cause she's been in love before you came along.

Only her love didn't come back. He'll never come back. She told you about her missing sailor when you first met her. And you took it in your stride. But last night when you held her close it was his name she 1 whispered not yours.

And you sat up the rest of the night battling things out with yourself. You just can't go on loving Grace, you said to yourself. Things have got to stop. YOU CAN'T bear the thought of sharing her life with a mem-' ory. She drives along with you in the car and now and then Jooks vacantly out the window.

You've never asked her, but you're sure she's thinking of the man who will never come back. She admits that she likes you very much but she also admits she's still in love with her sailor. You can't stand going with her knowing that. You feel that you're playing second fiddle. And you want.

to come first with Grace and way out ahead of the procession. You feel that there is a barrier between you insurmountable and permanent. It's all so vague, this barrier that's between you. You can influence her but you can't control her feelings. So you resolve to bow out before you get hurt any deeper.

WILLIAM BRADY A young business woman had developed a successful business in the past ten vears along with some bad habits. When she had a general health examination she found that she couldn't measure up to standard in certain respects.

For one thing her pulse rate remained rapid for more minutes than it should after she ran up a flight of 20 steps or did 20 deep-knee flexions. This test, considered along with others and the physician's physical examination, give a good indication as to which way the wind blows. TWO OF the bad habits the young woman had acquired were the cocktail habit and the sitting habit. At first it was just an occasional cocktail. Then she gradually got into the habit of slipping out for a little "refreshment" every day.

It happened once a day at first; later she felt the need of it fornoon and afternoon. The sitting habit was well de veloped since her school days. She never walked even a few blocks, if there was any means of transportation available. Her mild interest in sport was exclusively as a spectator or fan. IT WAS not too difficult, in view of her poor showing in the health examination and her 17 or 18 pounds of slacker flesh, to persuade the young woman to improve her AT KINSEL DRUG STORES The Irish Hills on U.S.
