The mighty Dalesof tiny Hillsdale (Mich.) The Western Open, one of golf's foremost and oldest major championships, will be held in Detroit next summer. Plum Hollow Golf Club will be 'the host, returning to the local field as a sponsor for the first time in nine years. This announcement was made BY BOB LATSHAW Free Press Staff Writer Jointly Saturday by Gerald F. Johnson, president Plum Hollow, and James L. O'Keefe, WASHINGTON Highly successful on the West Coast, H'llsdale finished its schedule by grinding out a 12-0 decision over Lewis College as rsate Clark scored twice in the second half.

Th Dales, 9-0 for the season, have been mentioned for both the Aluminum Bowl and Refrigerator Bowl. where they ran their victory streak to six games, the Detroit Lions try their luck on the Eastern seaboard Sunday afternoon. The Washington Redskins will provide the opposition in Griffith Stadium with the kickoff set for Chicago, president of the Western Golf Association. The Western Open, which was held on the Pacific Coast the last two seasons, will replace the traditional Motor City Open on the 1957 schedule. It will mark the only appearance of the pro circuit in Detroit.

The injury jinx finally caught up with the Lions, and first-stringers on both'offense and defense will be missing. The i difficulty, however, may evolve from a rugged Washington defense.

After rolling up good yardage in their first four games, the Lions' offense has slowed down considerably in the last two starts.
