8C THE DETROIT NEWS SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 14, 1993.. Rollin (Jerry) Tobin was a 'professional policeman' (now Northland Mall)mall in South-field in the late '70s. He was active with the Chamber of Commerce, the Southfield Optimists and various youth groups. Mr. Tobin is survived by his wife, Jan; a son, Toby; and a daughter, Elizabeth; and by several children from a previous marriage.

Funeral arrangements are departments in which he had served. "One of the strong points about Jerry's character was that, in any emergency even if it was four o'clock in the morning he was always there, taking charge, doing the job." Among his most notable achievements as public safety director were boosting security and cutting down the crime rate at the J. L. Hudson He worked as chief investigator in the organized crime section of the state attorney general's office. He served as chief of police for both West Bloomfield Township and Birmingham before joining the City of Southfield in 1976.

He was 59. Mr.

Tobin began his life in law rforppmpnt. as a Detroit policeman. Monday, Nov. 8, 1993, in his Eastpointe home. He was born and educated in George Township, Pa.

He came to Metro Detroit in 1925 and served his apprenticeship with the J.W. McGinn and Co. Funeral Home in Detroit. He became a funeral director in 1934 and was a member and past president of District 1 Michigan Funeral Directors Association. He was appointed to the State Board of Mortuary from 1966-1971 and was a director of the Greek Catholic Union.

He was a member of St. Nicholas Byzantine Rite Catholic Church in Detroit, National Slovak Society and one of. the founders of the Detroit Slovak Riverfront Festival. Surviving are two daughters, Rosemary Johns and Ann M. Mraunac; four sons, David James Thomas J.

and George, 16 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Services have been held. Burial was in Resurrection Cemetery, Clinton Township. Sunday, Oct. 31, 1993, in Resurrection Nursing Pavilion, Parkridge, 111.

Burial was in Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside, 111. mington, died of complications of heart disease Wednesday, Nov. 10, 1993, at home. The former Rose E. Marron was born and educated in Elyria, Ohio.

She retired in 1971 from General Motors, where she was a seamstress for 23 years. She was a member of the National Letter Carriers Auxiliary; Daughters of Isabella; St. Gerald and St. Suzanne senior centers; and St. Francis Knights of Columbus Council.

Surviving are husband, Joseph; a son, Garron; three grandchildren; three sisters; and two brothers. Services were held Saturday, with interment in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Southfield. Funeral arrangements were by the Thayer-Rock Funeral Home, Farmington. Henry E. LaPonsey, 85, a retired owner of an auto supply firm, died pf lung cancer Monday, Nov.

8, 1993, in his Grosse Pointe Farms home. He was born and educated in Pinconning, Mich. He owned Tool Die Co. in Flint in the 1920s and '30s and McGraw Industries in Detroit from the 1940s until he retired in 1970. He was a member of the Detroit Gun Club, Detroit Sportsman Congress, Maple Grove Gun Club, and National Rifle Association.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Ellen; two daughters, Dianne Vaver-ek and Denise Donley-Daughetee; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters; and a brother. Services have been held. Burial was in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Southfield. Memorials may be sent to Hospice of Southeastern Michigan, 16250 Northland Drive, Suite 212, Southfield, 48075. George Van Kula 90, a Metro Detroit funeral director for 44 years, died of congestive heart failure A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. today in St. Paul Lutheran Church, 7701 W. M-36, Hamburg, 48139. Memorials may be sent to the church.

Fr. Michael J. Malley Was at his best as hospital chaplain The Rev. Michael J. Malley participated in many "tours of duty" during his 39 years as a priest.

Those who knew him best believe he was most at home as a hospital chaplain. "Father Michael's ministry at Elmhurst (111.) Memorial Hospital gave him a real perspective of what life is really about," said The Rev. Damien Graziano, pastor of St. Alexis Catholic Church in Bensenville, 111. "No sacrifice was too great for the sick, especially those who were close to death.

His ministry to the infirmed and their families was his life. He gave us all the great gift of loving." A memorial mass for Fr. Malley, a cleric of St. Viator, will be held at 6:30 p.m. Saturday in St.

Gerald Catholic Church, 21300 Farmington Rd. in Farmington. Fr. Malley, 67, died of a stroke Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Detroit.

Memorials may be sent to the Capuchin Monastery and Soup Kitchen, 1760 Mt. Elliott, Detroit, 48207. Eunice H. Hefferan, 84, a Grosse Pointe Farms homemaker, died of a pulmonary embolism Thursday, Nov. 11, 1993, in Ford Hospital, Detroit.

She was born Eunice Hatch in Ypsilanti and received a master's degree from the University of Michigan in 1933. She was a member of the National Society of Colonial Dames of America in Michigan, Founders Society of the Detroit Institute of Arts, Grosse Pointe Garden Club and Junior League of Detroit. Surviving are her husband, George a daughter, Judy Rollin-son; a son, George B. 13 grand-children; and three great-grandchildren. The body was cremated.

Private services will be held today in Grosse Pointe Farms, with interment in Evergreen Cemetery, Detroit. Memorials may be sent to the Neighborhood Club of Grosse Pointe, 17150 Waterloo, Grosse Pointe, 48230. Funeral arrangements were by William R. Hamilton Groesbeck Chapel, Mt. Clemens.

Rose E. Klepach, 84, of Far Frances Mundinger Office worker at Hoover Chemical Frances E. Mundinger, a former Hamburg, resident, died of a stroke Wednesday, Nov. 3, 1993, in Winter Haven (Fla.) Hospital. She was 70.

She was born Frances E. Teter in Detroit and graduated in 1940 from Fordson High School in Dearborn. Mrs. Mundinger was a data entry clerk for Hoover Chemical in Whit-more Lake, and retired in 1976. She was a member of the Lutheran Women Missionary League of Grace Lutheran Church in Winter Haven and a former member of St.

Paul Lutheran Church in Hamburg. Mrs. Mundinger and her husband, Clyde E. Mundinger, moved to Winter Haven in 1986. Other survivors include two daughters, Susan C.

Minock and Kaye Mundinger; four sons, Thomas C. Richard and David A. Mundinger and Robert A. Hecht; 12 grand-children; and two great-grandchildren. The body was cremated in Florida.

John J. Zeller, 88, died of suffocation when a car he was repairing fell on him Thursday, Nov. 11, 1993, at his Detroit home. He was born in Columbus, Ohio, and moved to Detroit as a teen-ager. He worked at a General Motors' Fisher Body plant for a few years and later as a repairman on the assembly line at Chrysler's Jefferson Avenue plant.

He was a UAW committeeman and president of UAW Local 7. He retired in 1962. Surviving are two daughters, Lillian K. Genna and Ruth A. Czen-kus; 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; and many great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 1-9 p.m. today in the Wujek-Calcaterra Funeral Home, 36900 Schoenherr at Metropolitan Parkway, Sterling Heights. Viewing, beginning at 10:30 a.m. Monday, will precede an 11 a.m. funeral mass in St.
