SATURDAY AFTERNOON, JULY 19, 1930 THE DOTHAN EAGLE WEEK AT DOTHAN'S THEAIRES "Twin Beds" Get Bride and Groom In Marital Tangle The predicament of a married man, called away upon his wedding night proves one of the amusing situations in "Twin Beds," the First National-Vitaphone 100 per cent talking picture starring Jack Mulhall, which comes to the Alabama theatre on Friday and Saturday. "Twin Beds." has been adapted for the screen from the Margaret Mayo and Salisbury Field stage tarce of the same name. It is a hilarious comedy dealing with the events that follow the wedding of the hero of the story and is crammed with wholesome but spicy fun. Mulhall has a new leading lady In this picture. Pretty Patsy Ruth Miller is seen as the blushing bride.

The big cast includes many players of cinema prominence, including Eddie Gribbon, Zasu Pitta, Jocelyn Lee, Edythe Chapman, Knute Erickson, Ben 1 Hendricks, Gertrude Astor, Armand Kaliz and Nita Martan. "Twin Beds" was directed by Al Santell and is the first picture in which Mulhall has been starred alone since he was recently ted to the highest stellar rank by First National pictures, Two Song Hits Are Featured In "Careless Age" Three of the most popular Broadway song-writers, all of whom are now under contract to First National Pictures, composed the musical numbers for "The Careless Age," featuring Douglas Fairbanks Loretta Young and Carmel My. ers, which comes to the Alabama theatre Wednesday and Thursday. The outstanding songs are "Melody Divine," which is sung by mel Myers, and a frivolous ditty entitled "Say It With a Solitaire," "Melody Dine" is said to be alworthy of it, title. The together lyrics were written by Herman Ruby and the music by Norman It is romantic; it is Spencer.

This opus strikes "Melody severely practical note. "Every a I meet raves about my man charms," warbles the young lady; in rather too subbut such Homage for her. MON. Tues. Fool with RAYMOND HACKETT FREDERIC MARCH Virginia Lee Corbin and Mickey Bennett ALABAMA A 10c-25c until 6 15c-35c Nights and Sundays "The Cocoanuts" Returning To Alcazar Thurs. By actual request of many fans who either missed th. performance of "The Coacoanuta" while it showed at the Alcazar several months ago or who eagerly await the opportunity of seeing the hilarious Marx Brothers in action once more, the management of the Alcazar have secured this Paramount feature hit for a return showing beginning Thursday.

he Four Marx Brothers, Groucho, Chico and Zeppo, ag' in will come to Dothan to do their clowning through "'The Cocoanuts" Paramount's new talking, singing picture at the Alcazar Thursday through Saturday. They are funny, Groucho, suppl'ed with idiotic lines, puta them over snappily; Chico does his pianoplaying specialty; Chico etaoineta specialty and Harpo, the siplaying lent one, plays the harp. They're the screen most of the time. on "The Cocoanuts" is based on the musical comedy of the same name in which the Marx Brothers, you'll recall, starred during the stage run. And the picture version adheres to all the time-honored traditions of the stage musical comedy, Mary Eaton and Oscar Shaw, as the romantic leads, sing their pleasantly and Miss Easong very ton dances gracefully.

"The Cocoanuts" owes its entertainment value to the antics of the Marx Brothers. I can 80 on. You get the 1 idea. Perkins, Spencer and Ruby are responsible for many song hits, and they are keeping their fine record to the highest mark in their conup tributions to "The Careless Age." Cooper, Fay Wray Lovers In Second Outdoor Thriller Five hundred dollars is what the Llano Kid was worth to the people of Texas back in 1885 dead or alive He's alive at the Alcazar theatre and he's worth a whole lot more than that in entertainment. There are more thrills with Gary Cooper, as the Llano Kid, in "The Texan" than there were even in the great Wetern outdoor spectacle romance, "The Virginian." And That is certainly saying a lot "The Texan," which opens at the Alcazar theatre Paramount's companion picture to "The Virginian." Again Cooper brings to life the spirit of the plainsmen pioneers, this time in a tremendous action drama which takes him from the rolling plains ofTexas to theimpressive pampas of South America.

Fay Wray is the girl who captures Cooper's heart in this strange lovestory. Cooper, a Texas into a pact to pos as the long lost son of a wealthy South Ame. ican woman. Tt sumptuos hacienda, he wins the heart of the lovely niece, and is accepted 85 the son of the house. His interests awaken his better instincts, and he fights to escape his nefarious bargain.

Emma Dunn, as the wealthysenora, gives a moving performance in a realy great role. O. Henry owrote the originial story which Paramount has made into a truly worth -while picture, and the turns of comedy, humor, drama, pathos and romance make up a really varisd entertainment with a strangely moving plot. Norma Shearer In "Divorcee" Has New Role Norma Shearer's ability As an actrees capable of handling difficult emotional roles is again vividly demonstrated in he Inewest Metro-Goldwin-Mayer talking vehicle, "The Divorcee." which opens Sunday at the Houston theatre. In this picture, adapted from a story by Ursula Parrott, the attractive plays the part of a woman whose attempts at showing her husband that there is a double standard for women as well as men result in utter disaster.

Jerry Bernard attempts to console herself for the loss of her husband. who has deserted her because of he affair with his best friend by living a life of perfect freedom even if she has to break all social codes in doing so. The husband's previous liaison with a divorcee had determined the high strung SOciety girl that she would meet him 011 common ground. Her fast pace comes to an abrupt end when she finds herself on the verge of breaking up the marriage of one of her friends whose husband has lost interest in her as a result of a facial disfigurement which follows upon an automobile accident. How she finds a way 014 of the matrimonial chaos makes up what easily stands in the front ranks of this year's talking screen dramas.

No little of the success of this picture is due to the work of Miss She-ter's large supporting cast, brilliant performances being given SCENES FROM THE MOVIES NORMA SHEARER in a scene from "THE from "Divorcee," with Norma Shearer and ChesTop: A scene ter Morris, at the Houston Sunday through Wednesday. "PARTY GIRL" BANNED IN B'HAM COMING STRAND "Sisters" Is Feature Beginning Sunday; "Party Girl" Will Start Wednesday Now Dothan fans are going to have the opportunity of passing judgment on the tastes and criticisms of Birmingham's board of movie censorship.

"Party Girl," the modern movie expelled from Birmingham several weeks back is booked for two days at the Strand Theatre beginning Wednesday. The Birmingham censors claimed "Party Girl" as an indecent show and the exhibitor of the show in the Magic City claimed it was no such thing. The story of "Party Girl" revolves around the practice of bureaus in New York City in providing girls for parties upon prompt notice. Two sisters come together as stars in one picture in the show titiled "Sisters" which plays at the Strand Theatre Sunday through Tuesday. For Molly O'Day and Sally O'Neill besides appearing as sisters in the film are actually sisters in real lie James Gleason and Jason Robards appear opposite the sisters in "Sisters." Tom Tyler graces the Strand Theatre screen once again next Friday and Saturday when his latest production, "Pioneers of the West" will be seen.

Tom always went heavy on this movie stuff called action and thrills. It is Tyler's belief that the fans like their westerns hot and exciting. To prove that he means what he says Tom ordered an extra dose of action when work began on "Pioneers of the West." And he got it too! BANK CLERK DIES MEMPHIS, July 19 (A P) -Author S. New Colleen Moore Film At Alabama "Footlights and Fools," newest of Colleen Moore' entertaining screen stories, and the first of her dialogue pictures to include episodes in Technicolor, has been secured by the management of the Alabama Theatre for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.

This Vitaphone special offers the popular little star a wide scope for her exceptional talent in characterization, for her role includes highly Interesting variations. She appears as a supposedly exotic French actress, with an intriguing Parisian accent, in part of the story, Impersonates a another slangy Broadway chorus girl in the plot, and plays the greater part of her characterization in her own charming personality. Although "Footlights and Fools" recounts the humorous and dramatic adventures of a Broadway revue star, it is not solely a story of back-stage life. Miss Moore's two leading men, Raymond Hackett ad Frederick March, do not: portray theatrical, characters, and the plot is built Ground three-sided mance, with the eventual winner of Colleen not being disclosed until the final moments of the picture. Technicolor has been employed to enhance the beauty of several stage numbers in which Colleen is supported by a huge ensemble of seventy-two brilliantly costumed show girls and dancers, It la is these color episodes that the popular song hits, "It I Can't Have You," "You Can't Believe My Naughty Eyes" and "Pilly Pom Pom Plee," are introduced, all of which are sung by Miss Moore.

In addition to Hackett March, the supporting casts "Footlights and Fools" presents Virginia Lee Corbin, Edward Man tindel Adienne d'Ambricourt Mickey Bennett, Cleve Moore, Andy Rice, Frederic Howard and Sidney Jarvis in other important portrayals. Sunday Monday Tuesday "SISTERS" MOLLY O'DAY AND SALLY O'NEIL It's a natural born hit fresh from the studios and "knocking 'em cold" everywhere. Put this one down on YOUR date book now! Dix Finds His "Perfect" Role In "Seven Keys" By RICHARD DIX Radio pictures could not have made a happier selection of a story for my debut as a star under their banner than "Seven Keys to Baldpate." For many years this George M. Cohan play has been a favorite among theatregoers the world over and now it comes to the talking screen as a perfect example of audible film entertainment. It is Cohan at his best--a rollickingly funny farce melodrama, with more thrills and suspense packed into it than any play I have ever seen.

Inasmuch as I have always wanted to play the part of Magee, the novelist, it is obvious that I was delighted when William Le Baron, vice-president in charge of R. K. O. production here in Hollywood told me he had purchased "Seven Keys to Baldpate," for my first Radio starring vehicle. When Earl Derr Biggers wrote this thrilling story of an author's adventures in a deserted mountain tavern in the middle of winter he must have foreseen the coming of talkies, for the plot, characters a and situations adapt themselves even more perfectly to the screen than they did the stage.

The character of Magee, the author, which I play, appealed to me from the very start because of its serio-comic qualities. Magee is a successful novelist who wagers with a friend that' he can write a complete book within twenty-four hours. In order to obtain privacy he goes alone to Baldpate Inn, located on a mountain top. The place is deserted, for it is a summer resort and Magee visits it in the death of winter. What transpires during the twenty-four hours Magee spends at Baldpate embraces all the moods of the theatre.

There is romance, comedy, melodrama, tragedy and satire. The denouement brings a surprise that no one will guess in advance and in my opinion is one of the cleverest pieces of playwrighting ever conceived. Burned Stores Being Remodeled, Rebuilt ENTERPRISE, July 19 -(Special) -The store recently occupied by the Bryers Warren Drug company, that was almost completely destroyed by fire early Sunday morning, and the store occupied by Pitman and Hutchison, damaged some time ago, are being remodeled and modernized, and when completed the same firms will again be found at the old stands with a more complete stock than ever before. Passengers of auto bus lines, the California Automobile association estimates, have incr ased by 200 per cent in the last seven years. Wisconsin has about 8,671,000 acres of pasture 'a d.
