Katke was known as a modest man and a strong supporter of colleges. In appreciation for his assistance He was a trustee of Kirk in the Hills, Bloomfield Hills, and was serving on the board of directors of the Oakland University Foundation. He had formerly served on the boards of Alma (Mich.) College, Cranbrook Institute of Science, Cranbrook Institutions, Detroit Science Center and the Detroit Symphony. Mr. Katke was a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers, the Detroit Athletic Club and the Economic Club of Detroit.

"My father was a very quiet and modest man," said his son, David J. Katke. Mr. Katke had been awarded an honorary doctorate of law from Ferris State and an honorary doctorate of humanities from Oakland Also surviving are his wife of 68 years, Maisie Cope Katke; another son, John D. Katke; 10 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; one great-great-granddaughter; and two sisters.

The body was cremated. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Kirk in the Hills, 1340 W. Long Lake Bloomfield Hills. Inurnment will be in Kirk in the Hills, Columbarium.

Hamilton Funeral Home, Birmingham. and a retired executive vice-president for Ford Motor died of cancer Thursday, Aug.

26, 1993, in Peachwood Inn, Rochester. He was 85. Mr. Katke was born and educated in Big Rapids, Mich. He studied engineering and industrial management at Michigan State University from 1937-1939.

He also studied at the General Motors Institute from 1939-1941. He worked at General Motors for 21 years before leaving to join Ford Motor Company in 1949. Mr. Katke was manager of Ford's first automatic transmission plant in Fairfax, Ohio. At the time he retired from Ford in 1972, he was the company's executive vice-president of technical affairs.

Catherine A. Missig, 95, a Grosse Pointe Park homemaker, died of pneumonia Thursday, Sept. 2, 1993, in St. John Hospital, Detroit. The former Catherine A.

Faas, who was born in Detroit, was a member of the American Legion Red Arrow Club 361 and a former president of 32nd Group of the Red Arrow Club of Michigan and Wisconsin. She sang in the choir of St. Joseph Catholic Church and was a member of St. Clare of Montefalco Catholic Church, both in Detroit. Her hobby was making lap robes for the residents of the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Allen Park.

Surviving are a daughter, Henrietta A. Missig; two sons, Donald H. and Richard and two grandchildren. Her husband of 58 years, John L. Missig, died in 1978.

A funeral mass was celebrated Saturday in St. Clare of Montefalco Catholic Church, Grosse Pointe Park, followed by burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Detroit. Funeral arrangements were by Verheyden Funeral Home, Grosse Pointe Park. in establishing golf courses at Ferris State University in Big Rapids and Oakland University in Rochester, both schools named their golf courses after him.

Bates Longtime teacher active in church Donald W. Bates, a Mt. Clemens resident and longtime special education instructor, died of complications of heart disease Thursday, Sept. 2, 1993, in Mt. Clemens General Hospital.

He was 57. Mr. Bates was born in Detroit. He received his bachelor's, master's and specialist degrees in education from Wayne State University. He had worked in education for the past 35 years and was principal of Keith Bovenschen School, Warren, a school for the mentally impaired.

He had previously taught in both the L'Anse reuse and Eastpointe school systems and was a support counselor for heart patients at Mt. Clemens General Hospital. Mr. Bates was a member of St. Thecla Catholic Church where he was an extraordinary minister of the Eucharist.

He was a member of the Mt. Clemens Old Crowd, the Macomb County Administration of Special Education, the Michigan Council for Exceptional Children and the American Heart Association. He was also a member of the Wayne State University Alumni and a part-time instructor at the university. Surviving are his wife of 32 years, Joanne Stinson Bates; three daughters, Kathleen Kellee A. and Colleen C.

Bates; two sons, Terrence M. and Kevin W. Bates; two granddaughters; three sisters; and a brother. Visitation is from 2-9 p.m. today and from noon to 9 p.m.

Monday in the Will Schwarzkoff Funeral Home, 233 N. Gratiot, Mt. Clemens. A scripture service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Thecla Catholic Church, 20740 S. Nunnely, Clinton Township. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Clinton Township.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the American Heart Association of Michigan, 16310 W. 12 Mile, Southfield, 48076 or the Mt. He was raised in Highland Park and served in the Marine Corps during World War II. After his discharge, he attended Highland Park Junior College. Mr.

Aramian began a 20-year career in the dry cleaning industry. He was an expert in silk spotting and finishing. He often commented that he worked alongside Coleman A. Young in a Detroit cleaning establishment before the present mayor began his political career. In 1960, Mr.

Aramian established Troy Cleaners on Rochester Road in Troy. He subsequently sold the business and began work at the Chrysler Mound Road Engine Plant, where he retired in 1992. He was active in the Troy community and was a member of both the Troy Rotary and Troy Lions clubs. Surviving are his twin brother, Armen, and a second brother, Paul. Visitation is 4-9 p.m.
