Kelly becomes Central's fourth -football coach in six years. Kelly served as a member of the Free Press All-State Board of Coaches in 1949. Of all the athletes he developed at Arthur Hill, Dick Rifenburg, Michigan's All-America end of 1947, was the most outstanding.
