The famed rock guitarist as an actor this weekend on Mike Duffy if -i "Cafe Ameri-cain," the new NBC sitcom starring his wife, Valerie Bertinelli. The cameo spot, with Van Halen portraying a scruffy Paris street musician, arrives in the show's opening scene (8:30 p.m. Saturday, WDIV-TV, Channel 4). Ber "One Day At A Time" nearly 20 years ago.

LOOKING GOOD: Though it's a tired, formula "Matlock" and "Murder, She Wrote" clone, Dick Van Dyke's new "Diagnosis Murder" helped boost CBS's audience 60 percent in the 8 p.m. Friday time slot when it debuted last week. That's good news for Van Dyke and CBS, but bad news for fans of NBC's far more worthy and interesting "Against the Grain," which got whomped by the tedious new murder mystery.
