Spotlight Linda Formet-Heath On Saturday from 10 a.m. until noon and 1:30 until 4 p.m., acclaimed composer Lanny Wolfe will conduct a songwriting workshop, including the finer points of melody, harmony and lyrics as well as the business end of the music business, the making of demo tapes and copyright and performance rights rules. Wolfe has focused his talents on the gospel songwriting genre, being nominated eight times by the Gospel Music Association as best gospel composer, and has also been recognized by Billboard magazine as part of the top contemporary trio. The group now records with their own label and publishes written works through Pathway Press in Cleveland, Term.

When he isn't touring with the Lanny Wolfe Trio and the Lanny' Wolfe singers, he practices what he preaches as a music minister, having served as dean of the school of music at Christian Life College, in Stockton, Gateway College of Evangelism in St. Louis, Mo. and Jackson College of Ministries in Jackson, Miss, where he founded the National Music Ministry Conference, helping to train oth- LANNY WOLFE Recognized by Billboard ers in the work. And in his spare time he has written more than 500 songs and 11 musicals, including the Christmas classic Noel, Jesus Is Born. Those who regularly view Oral Roberts telecasts are familiar with the closing song, Greater Is He, composed by Wolfe and another popular Wolfe inspiration, Surely The Presence of the Lord Is In This Place, was often used by Rex Humbard.

Those songs and many others reached the Top 10 in the Gospel Music Association over the years, and albums Rejoicing Live, Have A Nice Day, and Can't Stop The Music all reached the Top Five, according to the association. He has been recorded by the best in the business, including Barbara Bill Gaither, Kenneth Copeland, Janet Paschal, the Blackwood Brothers and Doug Oldham. Sandi Patti's recording of More 1 Than Wonderful received the Dove Award for best gospel in the inspirational category and Wolfe was also named songwriter of the year for that work in 1984.
