Tigers and Triplets officials hope to keep Robbins' decision a secret while trying to convince him to reconsider. June 16: Robbins' retirement is reported in Evansville and Detroit.

Triplets management distributes a press release before the night's game. It says: Until further notice, the Triplets' clubhouse and dugout are off limits to the media before game time. June 17: During the game against Indianapolis, Trips Dave Johnson is sports editor of the Press in Evansville, home of the Tigers' top farm club. This is his last report this year on the Triplets, who have finished their season. EVANSVILLE, Ind.

Notes, quotes and anecdotes from the Evansville Triplets' season: April 12: Manager Roy Majtyka announces the Triplets' opening night lineup against Louisville: Jeff Cox, second base; Howard Johnson, third base; Glenn Wilson, center field; Mike Laga, first base; Les Filkins, right field; Marty Castillo, catcher; Jeff Kenaga, DH; Ray Hampton, left field; Mark DeJohn, shortstop, and Bruce Robbins, pitcher. At the end of the season, only Laga, Filkins, Castillo, Kenaga and DeJohn will still be with the team. April 13: Johnson and Wilson are called up to Detroit after leading Evansville to a 5-2 opening night victory. Tiger manager Sparky Anderson says of Johnson: "I'm so high on Howard Johnson, it's unreal. If he ain't ready, who's ready?" May 6: After hitting .188 for the Tigers in 12 games, Johnson is sent back to Evansville.

June 7: The Triplets' annual exhibition game against the Tigers draws 2,623. "I was hoping for 4,500," says general manager Chuck Murphy. "Two years ago, when the Tigers weren't doing so well, we drew 3,300. Tonight we're playing the winningest team in major league baseball, and we can't even get 3,000. HR- Knhii OKs Molinaro deal PHILADELPHIA (AP) The Philadelphia Phillies received approval Thursday to purchase the contract of outfielder Bob Molinaro from the Chicago Cubs, but both teams were fined for violating a baseball rule in connection with the transaction. The two teams announced Tuesday that Molinaro was the player-to-be-named-later in the off-season deal that sent catcher Keith Moreland and pitchers Dickie Noles and Dan Larson to the Cubs for pitcher Mike Krukow. But on Wednesday, a spokesman for Commissioner Bowie Kuhn notified the two National League teams that the Molinaro deal violated a rule that says a player who has been on a team's active roster can't be assigned as a player-to-be-named-later to a team within the same league in the same season. On Thursday, Kuhn's office informed the teams the deal could be made but both clubs would be fined for violating the rule.

The size of the fine was unknown.
