0 THE BIG TEN front. Michigan will undertake a two- game road trip to Wichita Fri- nrtli Nebraska Friday, while Michigan State will Plav host repentatives and coaches wiU open the annual four-day winter meetings in Chicago Tuesday. Awaiting their action is a pro posed round-rohin schedule snd a new aid-to-athletes program. AX F.ARLY vote is expected on the schedule prohlem, which already has been hashed over by the athletic directors and 'coaches. As things stand now, the new scheduling setup is to be approved.

Only three schools stand definitely against it. Two are obvious Michigan and Ohio tate, whose home attendance annually leads the ration. The third is Northwestern. Illinois might be a fourth, The Illini reportedly will go fr the ronnd-robin schedule if the conference permits a game, Michigan's Fritz Crisler, al- ways influential in conference policy matters, plainly will need all his charm and persuasion to convince Michigan State, Mmne- sota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Indiana and Purdue that, a round-robin schedule is not desirable. Such a.

schedule would require each school to meet all other conference members each year In recent seasons, Michigan has been playing as many as seven conference games while most others have had six. ONE OF THE drawbacks to the plan would be that the great intersectional games, such as Michigan-Armv and growing ri valries like Michigan State-Notre Dame no longer would be possible. Michigan State prefers the round-rohin for the simple reason that it hopes to strengthen its over-all schedule and possibly get Michigan to play more often in East Lansing. The Wolverines have been there only once since 194S. At any rate, the round-rohin -scheduling Avonld not go into effect before 1961.

(Tug) Wilson and his assistant, Reed. Citing the skyrocketing costs of athletics, the committee Avarned that the schools were courting financial chaos which could bring abandonment of Intercollegiate athletics. As a result, a two-pronged proposal will be offered at the meetings. One of the points is that an investigative agency be hired to! survey the financial assets of the-families of every prospective conference athlete and report on the amount of aid he should be furnished. THE SECOND is adoption of'.

a sort of "letter of intent" by all; prospective athletes. It would" provide that an athlete, trans-; ferring from one conference, school to another, would not be eligible to receive financial aid. at the second school. Considerable debate is expected on the full question of athletic aid, and it is uncertain whether any parts of the program will be adopted at the meetings.
