1. (A. Reports In Wall street today eald the New York Central railroad had agreed to transfer its holdings In the Reading Co. to the Baltimore Ohio. No specific time for the transaction has been set, but the report said the Central had agreed in principal to the deal, provided that in return the B.

O. gives it certain truckage rights. It is understood that these would Include rights over the Buffalo, Rochester Pittsburgh railway, which the B. O. recently acquired, and also a continuation of certain trackage lights over the Reading and its controlled Central railroad of New Jersey.

Irving Fisher Service.) New Haven, Aug. Stock prices held steady at Frl day's close with tradings agaia dropping to a minimum for tha week, following the most activ sessions the past three weeks. The Irving Fisher Index of all-in dustrlals reached the month higK on Monday at 1383. only to suffer' a two days' recession, which raised the question In the minds of tha public as to whether prices might recede sharply back toward tha June lows. With tradings decreasx ing, prices steadied toward tha week's close: the level of all Irw dustrlals declined 1.1 per cent from last week's close and 0 8 per cent above last week's low on July 21.

The groups of agricultural equipment, chemical and drug, machinery and railroad equipment stocks the week up from last week's close. Washington, Aug. 1. (A. President Hoover today announced the resignation of Thomas F. Wood-lock from the Interstate Commerce commission and the appointment of Charles Mahaffle, for many years finance director of the commission, as his successor.

Mr. Woodlock is ending his first term as a commissioner. Hs Is a former New York broker and at one tlmo was editor of the Wall Street Journal. He was confirmed by ths senate after a prolonged fight in which he was charged with representing too strongly the moneyed Interests.
