But his 68 yard touchdown gallop and a sparkling 37-yard pass hauldown for another furnished the winning spark as a capacity crowd of 40,000 looked on from the stands of historic Kyle Field. They are Andy MacDonald, of Central Michigan; Bill Dillman, of Kalamazoo, and Ron Schipper, of Hope, who finished one-two-three in final total offense and passing statistics. All the individual pacesetters came from the smaller colleges, but Michigan State's powerful Spartans monopolized team honors. THE OTHER champions were John Hamilton, Hope's amazing freshman fullback who was No.

1 in rushing, and Jim Stefoff, Kalamazoo's veteran end who outdis tanced all rivals in pass receiving. All 19 teams in the State have completed their schedules except the University of Detroit, which still must play Tulsa on Saturday. The Titans, however, are not threatening any of the leaders. MacDonald, the Chips' talent ed junior, was an easy winner In both passing and total offense. Tossing 183 passes, he completed 114 for a national record.

His aerials were good for 1,560 yards, another first Although charged with losing 55 yards by rushing, MacDonald's total offense mark of 1,505 yards was more than 300 yards ahead of all challengers. DILLMAN RANKED second in pass completions with 79 and also second in total offense with 1,050 yards by passing and 127 more by rushing for a total of 1,177. Schipper, third in completions with 68, shaded Dillman in pass ing yardage with 1,180. But he lost 43 yards for a total offense figure of 1,137, which landed him third place. The biggest surprise of the year was Hamilton, a 6-foot-2 190-pounder who reached his 18th birthday during the season.

An unheralded freshman from Rockford, he first had to beat out veterans before becoming Hope's fullback. Improving with a rush, Hamil ton picked up 875 yards in 152 carries to lead all the runners. Hamilton finished just two yards in front of Roger Winter, 145-pound Kalamazoo scatback, who ran 118 times for 873 yards. Wayne's El Richmond was third with 783 yards in 165 trips. 1 honors nationally with his expert pass catching. He picked off 45 tosses for 680 yards, both figures tops in current national standings. Chuck Miller, of Central Michigan, caught the second highest total, 23 for 322 yards, while Jim Johnston, of Wayne, was second in yardage with 330 on 22 catches. Harold (Dub) Martin, of Alma, was the leading scorer with 11 touchdowns for 66 points. A fleet halfback, he carried 111 times for 710 yards.

Winter was the runner-up in scoring with 55 points, closely trailed by Hamilton, Don Mc-Auliffe, of Michigan State, and Len Johnston, of Western Michigan, each with 54. IN TEAM statistics Michigan State had the best record by win ning all nine games. No other team lost fewer than two games, Alma placing second with a 7-2 mark. The Spartans compiled the most yardage, 3,627, to average 403 yards a game, also scored the most points, 270, a neat 30-point average. Alma was second in yardage with 8,189, also in nine games.

Central Michigan picked up 3,170 yards In eight starts for the second best average of 396 a game. Both team defensive marks went to Alma's Scots. They held nine opponents to a total of 72 points, and included four shutouts. The Scots yielded the fewelst yards, only 961 by rushing and 579 by passing for a mere 1,540 total. He is captain of the new Wayne team and the playmaker counted on to steady a talented but inexperienced group of sophomores. 1 3HCHIGAN STATE, Wayne's opponent Saturday, has lodged a verbal, though unofficial, protest against the use of the 24-year-old senior after his eighth scholastic semester. Wayne's athletic board has ruled that Condon still has a full semester of eligibility remaining, but some doubt remains whether Wayne will choose to use him in the face of the Spartan protest. There were rumors Thursday that Coach Joel Mason had visited Spartan Coach Pete Newell earlier in the week and threatened to; cancel Saturday's game at East! Lansing because of the protest. CONDON was ineligible one semester and Wayne claims that this, his eighth semester of athletic competition, is legal by National Collegiate Athletic Association standards.

No official decision has been made on whether Condon will be able to play against the Spartans Saturday. The former Cooley High School star is due to graduate in February. Celeri Given Ratterman's Job NEW YORK (U.R) Coach Jimmy Phelan said rookie Bob Celeri has won back the No. 1 quarterback post from Ceorge Ratterman and will be the New York Yanks' starting signal-caller against the Packers Sunday at Green Bay.
