'Great Waldo Pepper' Will Open at Grand Perk News. 1979 13S Young men with their heads in the clouds in the 1920s provide the inspiration for Universal's "The Great Waldo Pepper," starring Robert Redford, and opening Friday at The Grand. The drama about early barnstormers is the story of men who loved to fly. Like other flyers of the period, Waldo could not face the prospect of life on the ground, of not being able to see the clouds from above. Bo Svenson, Philip Bruns, Susan Sarandon and Geoffrey Lewis co-star.

I. N. Burchinal, of the Flying Tiger Airport near Paris, has also flown in the film and is expected to participate in some stunt flying on Friday when the film comes to Paris, according to Grand manager CharlesPomroy. "Doc Savage, Man of Bronze," starring Ron Ely will continue through Thursday with the first film about the paperback superhero. "Harold and Maude," starring Bud Cort and Ruth Gordon, the midnight special Saturday, concerns an unhappy mother-dominated young man of 20, whose relationship with a madcap older woman of 80 teaches him a new and irreverent philosophy of life.

maggie's farm by John edmiston AWAITS START Mary Beth Mclllhenney (Susan Sarandon) waits the start of her first stunt flight in Universal's "The Great Waldo Pepper," which is scheduled to open at The Grand Theater. SHOW TIMES The Man of Bronze! SHOW TIMES "THE AMD MIT YET!" Black, 3 4 White, ALL Woman! Paul McCartney, I may have said before with echoes from Maggie, has captured the Beatle sound perfectly, and his newest album with Wings, "Venus and Mars," though possibly not quite as consistent as his "Band on the Run," is still exceptional. McCartney combines the talents of his Wings group, featuring Linda, Jimmy McCulloch, Joe English and former Moody Bluesian Denny Laine, to bring some really fine New Orleans tainted rock right to your doorstep. McCARTNEY, next to John Lennon anyway, wrote the best lyrics for the Beatle extravaganza which captured this country for eight beautiful years. A friend once told me he considered McCartney the best rock-n-roll singer of all time, even above the likes of Mick Jagger and Mighty Elvis.

In "Venus and Mars," McCartney voice range from the subtle harmonies prevalent in "Band on the Run," to some good-hard times clapping in "Call Me Back Again." Well when when I was just a little baby boy Every night, every night I could call because your number Brought me called your number every night since then. But I ain't no, never Heard you calling me. McCartney Music, Inc. I guess that's why I always dug the Beatles, they used to be able to say what you felt. And even if you were down, the music could bring you back up again.

"Venus and Mars" puts McCartney in a bit of a satirizing he cuts down the social values of the "Rock Show," referring to "the ring at the end of my nose makes me look rather pretty. It's a pity there's nobody here to witness the end. the superheroes, in "Magneto and Titanium Man," about a conversation between McCartney and two or three comic super heroes about his love being "involved in a robbery due to happen at a quarter to three." But when they all get to the scene, they find that McCartney's girl is. The Law." Quite an involvement. MY FAVORITE song on this album is the rocking "Medicine Jar," a modern-day version of the Stones' "Mother's Little Helper." What can I do? I can't let go You say time will heal But very slow So don't forget the things you said I say I know the things you said I say I know how you feel Now your friends are dead.

Dead on your feet, you won't go far If you keep on sticking your hand In the medicine jar. McCartney Music, Inc. Like "Band on the Run," and any number of the old Beatle albums I have stacked in my collection, the songs on "Venus and Mars," makes me feel like letting go. A happy, thoughtful album, easy paced and growing on me. Easily to become a favorite.

At the Plaza, "Black Lolita," and "Quadroon," begin Sunday. "Lolita." starring Yolanda Love and Susan Ayres, concerns a beautiful up and coming vocalist who has worked her way up and learns that her relatives are being intimidated by a gang of hoods, so she returns seeking revenge. "Quadroon," is a controversial motion picture about life in New Orleans in 1835, and concerns a young man from New England who risked his life for the love of a beautiful woman who was the property of a wealthy Creole. She was a quadroon one fourth black, three- fourths white one of the legendary women of New Orleans noted throughout the world for their charm and exotic beauty.
