RSVP Voice 400 volunteers serve community The Red River Valley Senior Volunteer is for persons ag- and over who are willing to give their time, and skills to help imake our community a Ibetter place to live. Each 400 volunteers pro- jylde approximately 8,000 hours of community ser- jvices. Many volunteers jsta'te that their lives are enriched through their activites. The Value to Lamar and Red River Counties of senior volunteer activities is in- calpulable, even if each hour of service were evaluated at minimum who could afford it? A vital part of RSVP is the Advisory Council which is composed of community leaders who are involved in the day to day operation of program. A committee of this council that is very involved in the program at time is the by-laws committee.

Headed by Frances Ellis who is assisted by Katheryn Vaughan and Maggie Reese this committee is reviewing the original bylaws established at the beginning of the program in Paris in 1973 and making recommendations to the Advisory Council to update them to frame the present program and to conform to the most current ACTION guidelines. i Another very important committee is the Committee on Goals and Objectives. Felix Keys is the chairman with Ann Butler and Hettie Smith who have accepted the challenge of setting quarterly goals for the local program. The volunteer opportunity of the week is with Experienced Unlimited. Experience Unlimited is sponsored by the Human Resources Council and performs the service of assisting people aged 55 and over find employment.

The need is for office assistance on Monday and Friday mornings from 9 a.m. until 12 noon. Duties do not include typing. The person or persons who accept this volunteer opportunity will need to answer the telephone, take messages, and take care of light filing chores in a comfortable non-pressure atmosphere. The Punkie Dennis quilt is attracting donations, and there is still time to have a part in the effort to help Punkie who gave so much of herself on behalf of Lamar County senior adults when she lived and worked in Paris. Since the kidney transplant her medical expenses are far ahead of her resources to meet them. The quilt is on display in the Alford Center until Mar. 9 when some lucky person will take it home. Frequently inquiries about health concerns of senior citizens come to the RSVP office.

and Mrs, Norman R. Davis, 3535 Audubon announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Sally Carol, to Michael Scott Cosgrove, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Cosgrove of San Antonio. The couple will be married in a formal ceremony at 7:30 p.m.

on Saturday, June 23, in the First Baptist Church. The pastor, Dr. James Semple, will officiate. Miss Davis is a 1981 honor graduate of Paris High School and was 1980 Crape Myrtle Queen of Paris. She is a junior student at Texas University in College Station.

Her fiance is a 1980 graduate of Smithson Valley High School in San Antonio. He is a senior student at Texas University. He will receive his commission as a second lietutenant in the U. S. Army in May of this year.

March 23 deadline for professional entries Competitive art in the YWCA-sponsored Paris Art Fair 84 is divided into professional and nonprofessional areas. Nonprofessional competitors may enter their work the day of the fair and no prior arrangements are necessary but professional work is juried for the second year and must be first accepted before competing in that area. The 1984 fair will be held outdoors on the Paris Junior College campus on Saturday, May 5. Professional competition is open to all professional artists. Only original works by living artists done without supervision and having been completed in the last two years may be entered.

No work previously shown in the Paris Art Fair will be eligible. The juror is Nancy Paris Pruden, an award-winning artist and professional photographer. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Georgia. She headed her own design firm and ad agency for 10 years. Presently, she designs for Nu-Art, Inc.

and lives in Houston. Photography has been added to the media to be judged in professional competition this year. The other areas are oils, water media, prints and drawings and sculpture. Cash awards-totalling $1,000 will be awarded in this area of competition. Work must be submitted on color slides which should have the top indicated and should be labeled with the artist's name, address, title, medium and size.

There is no limit to the number of entries. An entry form, a $10 entry fee and a stamped, self- addresed envelope should accompany slides and should arrive at the YWCA by March 23. The YWCA is located at 308 S. Main, Paris, Texas 75460. All accepted slides become the property of the Paris YWCA.

All artists who have work accepted by the juror will receive detailed instructions for delivery of the actual work for fina'l judging. All shipping will be at the entrant expense.
