Marquette Spartans Out to Snap Hilltoppcrs' Streak; 20,000 Fans Are Expected BY DALE STAFFORD Free Press Sporta tdltor EAST LANSING, Oct. 10 Michigan State and Marquette, two of the leading independents of Midwestern football, will clash at Macklin Field here tomorrow In the thirteenth game of a series that has produced numerous thrilling conflicts. The kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.

rri. and approximately 20,000 persons are expected to be on hand. State has won seven of Its 12 games against Marquette but on form is the underdog for Satur day's affair. Marquette showed great power on the ground and a strong passing attack in upset-setting Wisconsin, 28 to 7, last Saturday, The Spartans were idle that day as they nursed injuries suffered in their 19-7 loss to Michigan the previous week. Spartan Regulars Out The Spartans still haven't recovered and will attempt to gain their first victory in three seasons over Marquette without tho services of two regulars.

Jack Fenton, who scored the touchdown against Michigan on a long run, has a sprained ankle and will be replaced by either Pete Fornarl or Morgan umgrass, iwo sopnomores. Dick Mangrum, a Junior, will hold down right tackle in place of Frank Karas, veteran, who has a leg injury. Charley Carey, a former halfback, will continue to fill In at fullback in place of Ed Ripmaster, who is unlikely to play. Dick Kieppe and Wilford Davis, veterans, complete the 'Spartan back-field. Bach man Seeks Edge The game is the "rubber one" of the Marquette series for Coach Charley Bachman, of State.

Since 1933 when he arrived at East Lansing his teams have broken even with Marquette. In spite of injuries Bachman isn't conceding Marquette a thing. "Our injuries have weakened us plenty, but the spirit the boys displayed against Michigan and their attitude in practice since have convinced me that they'll surprise Marquette," Bachman said on the eve of the battle. The Marquette game is the sec ond of three tough battles opening the State schedule. The Spartans will go to the Pacific Coast to meet powerful Santa Clara next Saturday.

Then they will get a breather against Wayne before engaging Missouri, Purdue and Tern. pie in the order named AROI ETTK 8TATF! Sherwood. Clark, Taylor, (inrant, Jtossellt. BV W. W. EDGAR Striking relentlessly through the air and along the ground, the University of Detroit football forces easily conquered the Bearcats of Central Michigan College, 45 to 0, Friday night In the U.

of D. Stadium, but the victory celebration was dimmed because of an injury that will keep Henry Piper, one of the best passers on the squad, on the sidelines for the rest of the season. Piper, a junior, suffered a broken left collarbone on the third play of the second period and was taken to Providence Hospital. Piper was tossed to the ground by a Bearcat blocker. It didn't seem like a hard fall, but he asked assistance to walk to the bench.

An examination by Dr. William E. Keane revealed the fracture. Decides It Early Tippy Madarik, sophomore from 111., settled the game in the first period when he played the leading role In the scoring of three touchdowns. The Titans scored another In the third and three more in the final period, but It was Madarik's performance in the opening period that removed all element of contest from the game.

Tippy opened fire five minutes after the game started and with four long passes to George Ghes-fjuiere moved the Titans to the two-yard line, from 'where he plunged over for the score. Art Link added the extra point. Then, with the help of Art Schmidt's line plunging, Madarik set up the second touchdown. He intercepted a Bearcat pass to start the drive from Central's 48, and with a mixture of passes and plunges took the ball to the two-yard line again. This time Ghes-qiilere went over and Link converted.

Gallops 49 Yard. Switching tactics, Madarik circled end for 49 yards and then hurled a pass to Howard Keating In the end zone for the third touchdown. Again Link converted. It was shortly after that Tiper was Injured and the Titan uttark stalled through the second period. U.

of D. came back with the varsity in the third session snd the Bearcats were forced to yield again when Madarik paced ground attack that was good for 63 yards and carried the Titans to the 15. Here a forward lateral, Madarik to Keating to Ohesquiere, was good for 10 yards nnd Schmidt plunged the rest' of the way. At this stage Madarik was replaced by Jack Buck, a third stringer, who ripped off a 30-yard fun early in the fourth period and then hurled a 20-yard touchdown pass to Link. A few plays later Buck duplicated the touchdown pass to Link.

The seventh marker was the work of Mickey McLaughlin, who flashed 20 yards to the Bearcat three-yard line and then plunged for the last touchdown. The meanwhile, were helpless. They registered six first downs, but never really threatened to score. The closest they came as the Titans' 24-yard line In the third period. 109 YARDS TO GLORY BARBOURVILLE, Oct.
