He was a member of Jerusalem Lodge 26, Plainfield Lodge 885, BPO Elks, and Union Village United Methodist Church, here. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Margaret Schmidt Eckner; a son, Richard A. of Bridgewater; two daughters, Mrs. Peggy Ann Scavuzzo of Bath, Ohio, and Mrs.

Judith Kintigh of Katonah, N.Y.; two Rose Cembrola NORTH PLAINFIELD Mrs. Rose DeNapoli Cembrola, 55, of West End Avenue, died April 7 at Muhlenberg Hospital. Born in Plainfield, she was a lifelong resident of the area. She was a bookkeeper for the Supermarket in Fanwood, and was a communicant of St. Bernard's Church, Plainfield.

She is survived by her husband, Orestes Cembrola; two daughters, Mrs. Joann Jennings Plainfield and Mrs. Deborah Murray of Neptune Beach, three sisters, Mrs. Josephine Amorosi of Lauderdale, Mrs. Gitto of Miami, Irs.

Funeral services were held last Wednesday. Robert M. Cole WATCHUNG Robert M. Cole, 53, of 225 Valley Drive died on April 8 in Toronto, Canada. Born in Tottenville, Staten Island, he had been a resident of Watchung for the past 15 years.

He was a pilot in the Air Force during World War II, and held a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn. At the time of his death, he was a vice president of Alberta Gas Chemicals, and president of Syncheon Construction of Edmondo, Alberta. He was also a partner and vice president of LoPorto Associates of Morris Plains. He was a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. He is survived by his wife, Mrs.

Jane Cole; two sons, Robert and John, at home; a daughter, Miss Susan Cole, at home; one brother, Charles of East Brunswick and one sister, Mrs. Helene Conboy. Funeral services were held yesterday, Wednesday, April 13, at the Higgins Home For Funerals in Watchung and interment was at Ocean View Cemetery, in Staten Island. Bertha B. Link, 85, of 43 Guinard Drive, died April 7 at Overlook Hospital. Born in Czechoslavakia, she lived in New York before moving to Watchung eight years ago. She was the widow of Charles Link, who died in 1957. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. William Harris of Watchung, and two grandchildren.

Services were held last Saturday, April 9, by the Higgins Home for Funerals in Watchung. WARREN At a recent court of honor in Boy Scout Troop 33, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Hay-Saints, Joseph Ivie of Mountain Avenue, received the Eagle Scout Award. For his Eagle project, Ivie completed a project of value to genealogical activity in New Jersey: he compiled an index for the data of the 1830 census in Middlesex County. Working for about 250 hours, and using the computer to alphabetize the data, he complied an index which is now available in the church's Genealogical Library in Morristown, in the New Jersey Genealogy Library, and the National Archives. Ivie is a junior at Watchung Hills Regional Hill School.

He is known by neighbors and family as "The Fixit Man," because of his talents in mechanics. He repairs family cars, appliances and electronic equipment. Scoutmaster Frank McAllister of Troop 33 reports that about of the boys in Troop 33 have achievedthe Eagle rank in recent years, as opposed to a national average of about "The Eagle Award is a real challenge for a scout," according to McAllister. "The first merit badges come easily, but the last half require tremendous self-motivation, both to do the necessary tasks and then to seek out the merit badge counselors in the community who will certify their work. The project requires a JOSEPH IVIE boy to show real leadership, organizing and directing others to help him carry out a worthwhile project." An educational poetry program, created to challenge and stimulate the imagination through poetic thought, was presented to small groups of students throughout the day. Two women fron Cedar Grove, Lois Koenig and Leila Weisholz, utilized about 35 puppets to act out poetry to school children. The program was followed by teacher instruction and encouragement in writing a poem reflecting each child's thoughts and values. Hearing Set On Personnel Code Changes WATCHUNG An ordinance establishing a comprehensive set of personnel policies in the borough was introduced at a recent Borough Council meeting. According to Borough Clerk Gladys Bartholomew, the ordinance basically updates and consolidates existing borough policies.

The only new policies added, she said, are those establishing disciplinary action and grievance procedures. A public hearing will be held on Thursday, April 14. No new positions or offices will be created by the ordinance, according to Bartholomew. She said that overtime, sick pay, vacation and retirement policies have been updated, and that all rules and regulations are spelled out clearly to eliminate any ambiguities.
