Henry Garland, of Stanford University, from 25 to 50 per cent of patients with advanced cancer go to quacks and pay usually much more than they would have paid to a good regular physician. Certainly, no regular physician would have promised a cure and then have stuck them for several hundred dol- 1 a cash down in advance. As Dr. Garland said, one of the ter-r i 1 things about going to a cancer quack is that in quite a few cases the patient loses his life unnecessarily. If he had only gone to regular physician he might have had his tumor cut out or destroyed with x-rays cr some other form of radiation.

I have known many a person with a curable cancer go to a quack and lose his life only because he was afraid to be hurt. There are many so-called Clinics or institutes or special hospitals in this country which appear to be just dens of thieves but, with th help of advertising, they do a big business. A man of 70 just wrote me that he recently went to one of these places to get his impotence cured. The quacks, after relieving him of some 500 dollars, gave him a few injections of something "into his protate gland and testicles" and then turned him loose. Needless to say, he is still impotent.
