Because of illness, I did not get the column done last week, the first I have missed, except while away, in the almost fifteen years I have been writing for The Times. I'm so thankful for renewed strength, to be about the daily chores again. What a mar-velously made mechanism one's body is! As a man is grateful for a delicate watch that operates perfectly, so one should be grateful to God for delicate eyes and ears, heart and lungs. As we use modern medicines, we owe a debt beyond that which our money can pay, for the countless dedicated men behind the research compounded in our prescription.
