Auburn avenue was long named Wheat street (which explains the original of the name of the famous Wheat Street Baptist Church) The first Atlanta Masonic Hall stood at the southwest corner of Loyd street (now Central avenue) and Alabama street By 1959 there were five lodges in Atlanta In 1950 Rawson building a stone building on Decatur street between Ivy and Pryor streets offered the Masons the top floor of the construction if they would build it They accepted the proposition and the hall survived destruction during the Battle of Atlanta thanks to the intervention of Con federate Masons with College He will succeed Robert Shellnut who re signed in April In another action council voted to hire Edward Brown as a patrolman for the police force He is a replacement for Robert McGaughey who
