Franklin and Oil City. Pa. Thursday. October 15. 19 THE NEWS-HERALD I 1 Students from St.

Patrick's School presented a program spotlighting the work of the Sisters of Mercy, who were founded in Ireland, came to the Erie Diocese in 1870, and have been in Franklin since 1894. Michael O'Toole was the announcer and the play was "A Mural Come? to Life," written by Sister Lawrence. Members of the cast seen from the left include Michael Layden, Ann Thomas, Denise Kozek, Pam Hugar, George Potapczuk, Karl Castonguay, Michelle Burkett, Debbie Adams, Andy Zakutney, Tammie Fonzo and Jamie Lentz. Patrick Hoover, not pictured, also took part. Michael O'Toole and Kim Johnston were understudies and Michael Kimball had charge of properties.

In the play the cast pointed out the works of mercy for which the Sisters were founded and their continued aim in these activities such as nursing, visiting the sick, and of their activities as teachers in schools for all age groups through college. Work outlined during play The Sisters of Mercy, who have been working in Franklin for the past 76 years, celebrated the centennial of their work in the Erie Diocese with a special mass and program on Sunday afternoon. Rt. Rev. Msgr.

James M. Powers, pastor emeritus of St. Patrick's parish, and the Rev. Thomas Smith, assistant pastor, concelebrated the mass. The pastor, the Rev.

Eugene Coleman, was commentator and the sisters took part with Scripture readings. Several sisters formerly assigned here were back to renew acquaintances. From the left are Sister Benedicta, who was in Franklin 14 years; Sister Bertha, who was also here a number of years before going to Erie; Sister Claire, of the White Sisters; Sister Ann, who is here now; Sister Philippa, of Erie, and Sister Lawrence, who is also at St. Patrick's School now. Sister Philippa confided that it took her 50 years to make it to Franklin.

She was assigned to come here a half century ago, but it was decided she was too young for the job here, and she received a new position. 5sfers were assignee here I I. ill ill II II I 1 Wrr 7m PERMISSI0H 2 6MHTED "1 rl T. i A 'K ONLY ONCE EACH YEAR ARE WE PERMITTED TO CUT PRICES ON THESE FINE BROADLOOMS.
